Hi all, I am toying with the idea of buying a Cerbera. However, I am not sure whether I should be looking for a 4.2 or 4.5. I have heard a lot about the 4.2 being more powerful than a 4.5, but that the vintage of the car is also important vis a vis power? I don't fancy a speed 6 engined car.
I have previously owned a Tuscan S and now own a Sagaris. The Sag is very pretty but has nowhere near the power of the Tuscan S.
Anyone know any good ones for sale?
Cheers

From what I've most 4.2 cerbs make more than the quoted 350bhp from TVR, most 4.5's make less than the 420bhp quoted, then it's down to each cars set up. My 4.2 made 377.7bhp at the rolling road day which was more than some of the 4.5's but clearly has been played with a lot, won't be selling it though until I have finished sorting all the little issues

Most post 2000 4.2's are 4.5's with the 4.2 induction etc...
I havent found 4.2's to be smoother than 4.5s.
The 4.5 is more tuneable than a 4.2 albeit a later 4.2 wont be that far off.
Buy the best you can find/afford, the later the better IMHO.
The later cerbs steer better than earlier ones.

Thanks, what does later mean in this context ie, what year?I havent found 4.2's to be smoother than 4.5s.

I would suggest it's a fairly moot point as there will be very few drivers that ever exploit the potential of the cars to the extent that the difference is relevant.
I've had both and they are awesome, as is the S6 variant.
As above, the condition is the most important aspect, and enjoy whichever you choose

I had a 4.2 and 4.5 at the same time so had great opportunity to compare. The 4.2 is an easier car to drive.. in my opinion it feels "more" like a normal sports car.. thats not a bad thing. its smoother to rev and less industrial.
the 4.5 when specced properly is more like an animal and i think the animal is slightly more addictive!!

As a long standing owner I would say that the difference between 360 and 420 bhp feels massive. I have never claimed to be a gerat driver but I do find the higher bhp a lot more exciting.
I didn't notice the difference between 340 & 380. There's fecking fast and fecking fasterishGazzab said:

At around 50bhp/tonne difference I'd hope so lol! like going from an M5 to a Murcielago!ukkid35 said:
There seem to be fewer 4.5s than 4.2s
4.5s are significantly more expensive
Cheap 4.5s (like mine) are basket cases, cheap 4.2s may not be
But early 4.2s have a very scary Achillies heal
What - the reputed crank? So come on then, qualify that. How many cranks broke out of how many cars made?4.5s are significantly more expensive

But that is the nature of an Achillies Heal, it's a high impact/low frequency flaw.Having said that, I've spoken with three people who had 4.2 broken cranks, and seen one of them with my own eyes. Like I said - scary! (the crank that is, not the owner)
