Wiper fuse again

My fuse fault is back again

On my car, fuse 16 controls the wipers, mirrors & radio (part of)

I've put a couple of wires on the broken fuse & I've got 12V across it. I'm guessing this isn't good

The bottom of the fuse has 12V+ , so I'm guessing this is the incoming supply.

The top of the fuse has 0V- on it, and I'm guessing that's the fault.

I've put a buzzer on those wires now, so I can actually 'hear' when the fault clears.

Without ripping the car apart, is there any easy bits I can get to on the wiper circuit & unplug ?





I'm leaning towards the wipers, as I got in this morning & the fuse was fine. I did a wash wipe & as the wipers returned the fuse popped again.

A couple of TVR specialists have had a go at fixing it, so I reckon it's time to have a blast myself

Is it easy to get to & is it a case of just unplugging it ?


ETA, sometimes the fuse pops as soon as I turn the ignition on, even without the wipers. But this morning it was definitely the wipers operating that caused it.

Weirdly, it's been ok in the rain.
It seems to be the morning dew/condensation that's 'king it up.

Just put a 500w fuse in there and the offending component should burst into flames, which should help you locate it

You really don't know how big the temptation is at the moment

On the plus side, I've got an easy to get to 30A 12V supply in the boot now.

Might get myself one of those fridges & just use the car on hot, sunny days.

Is this the one linked to the cigarette lighter? If so, that is your first port of call Russ.

A long shot but have a look at the wiper motor when the wipers are being used. If it moves around, which might be a contributing factor to something shorting out, try tightening the nuts on the splined stubs that the arms attach to. After a new wiper motor mine were a bit loose and the motor itself would wobble about.

Nah mate, that's at the other end, 6 or 7 I think

Take that fuse out & the car does a world of weird stuff.

Last time I removed that fuse, the headlights came on, the wipers did a wipe & permanently squirted water & I couldn't get in to the boot.... It only needed a clown to get out with a big red nose & I've had the full set.

Ah, on our old one, it used to do all of the above + drivers door and hazards. Always down to shorting the cigarette lighter.

To continue tradition, our T350c, although vastly superior in terms of leccy sense, has decided it doesn't like being locked anymore. TVRs eh?

You're right about the hazards & door .....

I know it's dodgy stuff being plugged in to the lighter that actually causes people to spot all that, but it's the actual removal/blowing of the fuse that causes it.
For the life of me, I can't see why removing a fuse, makes the headlights, wipers, wiper wash & hazards get a permanent supply & removes the power from one of the doors & the boot I presume that fag lighter fuse has something to do with the alarm

On mine the cigar lighter, radio and boot lock are all on the same fuse, hence I've learnt to open all doors & boot etc before working on electrics.
