Ok, so how come I never manage to leave the garage with change from £1500?

The Cerb is currently having its 36000 mile service with Topcats, I've just done 35000 but it was feeling a little "iffy" so I took it in a little earlier than necessary.

2 exhaust manifolds, a leaking power steering reservoir, a new radiator hose (caused by the leaking fluid), and a new HT lead later...

This is day one, they have the car all week, so any guesses as to the final tally? I'm sticking with my £1500 estimate.

One day, everything will be perfect

C'est la vie.

Can I have your old manifolds? If they're going to throw them away I would like to try some oxyacet welding on them. Obviously don't want to practice on working ones.

1500 pounds should just about cover the manifolds .. then the service on top .. I'd raise your estimate if i were you.

£596 + vat + fitting? should come out at a lot less than £1500!

Don't bank on that!! I've been told the engine needs to be 'moved to get the blighters out but if you get it done for under a grand then I know one place to contact later in the year.

I've been quoted 4 hours at the moment, i'll let you know what happens in the end.

Had a look at my slip of paper and it was actually £569 + vat + 4 hours fitting for both. TVRGear have them at £330 each side so it sounds about right to me.

The 4.5LW manifolds are a bit more I think, and the Rover V8 are a lot more so you might be getting them confused with those?

Good lad Gaz, always there to make everyone else feel better!! I am gobsmacked that you've spent so much, but after 8 months I can certainly see where it all goes!!

It should stay under 2 grand, which isn't gaspingly expensive for a full service and exhaust manifolds. Nobody ever said Cerb ownership was cheap, at least I haven't lost anything in depreciation yet!

So, at what point would it be sensible to buy a 6 month old car rather than a 6 yr old one? I've been thinking about how much money I spent on mine and attempting to work out how much better/worse off I would have been if I'd ran a newish t350c for a year instead.

I suppose it does all depend on the 2nd hand car you buy (as I know my old car is not much more likely to fail than a new one given the amount of cash I've spend on it replacing parts!).

Dare you work out the running total Neil? I reckon my next car will probably cost at least 5k in the 1st year for depreciation, but not much on running costs!

Spoken to Charlotte and she is going to hold on to them for you.

I'll let you organise picking them up/delivery. Give them a shout on 01296 655109 and mention that I (Neil) talked to Charlotte about you having my old manifolds.

So far I have spent close to £4000 including all servicing to date, maintenance, tyres and upgrades, but not including fuel or the cost of this current service. This is over 7 months and 7000 miles.

I bought at £15,500 and should be able to sell at the same price (if not a little more, considering it needed work when I purchased and has since had that work done, plus Nitrons, re-trimming etc...)

In Cerbera terms it's not actually that hideous and i'd expect to lose more than £5k in depreciation on a 6 month old T350 when selling a year later, plus tyres and servicing.

So you're looking at 7k (probably) for the year?
I reckon that if I bought a 31k T350 (like the one on James's web site) and put 10k miles on it (total 18) then I'd be able to sell it for 26k in a year. If the annual service costs 1k and the warranty covers the rest then it'd be 6k a year which is similar to your Cerbera.
I'm not attempting to have a go at anyone's choice of vehicle, just mulling things over in my mind!
So, any guesses how much a 12 month old Sagaris with 8k on the clock will sell for?

Well, I'd hope that it would be under £6k for the year as this service should get me another 6000 miles with no more costs other than fuel.

Will you be able to get away with one service over the course of the year, and don't forget the tyres...

Assuming those prices are correct (and I've no reason to doubt them!) then over the year the costs will have been very similar.

Of course, if you keep it for another year after that, does the equation still work out?

Probably not! With any luck you'll have gotten over the major expenses. I'm on the list for a Sagaris so it's probably best I don't think about it!

Well, good news and bad news!

Good news: After doing the service and re-clamping the exhaust together, it appears the manifolds aren't blowing and the cracks are superficial. So we decided to keep them for the time being and see what happens.

Bad news: you can't have my manifolds after all Julian Warren did mention that he might be able to sort you out some old ones if you want to give him a call anyway...
