crimped nipples

My throttle cable snapped last night whilst out and about and a very helpful man from the AA made up a new cable with crimped nipples either end to get me going.
He insisted that this was 'temporary' repair and that I needed to get a new TVR supplied cable fitted.
Does anyone know if there is a factory cable with proper soldered nipples or is the one that is normally put in just the same as the one the AA man has done?
