Scuttle panel removal ??

Two hex bolts, one near brake master cylinder, one at the other side near the battery. Disconnect windscreen washer tubing, remove scuttle panel.

Ummm, not talking about the "F2" panel here. I mean the one that butts up to the windscreen seal...with the windscreen wipers passing through it.



Aha ! This is obviously different depending on year/month/day of manufacture = Doh !

From what I've seen on mine it's pop riveted in place. Although I could be wrong.

Yeah, got a feeling that from series 2 on they were mainly like that - Double Doh !

The narrow panel under the screen has a self tap screw at each end tucked up under the windscreen seal (at least mine does). Obviously the nuts on the wiper sprockets need undoing, and as far as I recall there are a couple of screws or rivets tucked away along the front edge of the bonnet opening that need to be undone as well.

Are you trying to get access to the wiper wheel box mechanism? If so I am not sure that removing that panel helped much. The wiper wheels are boxed in and you have several bolts hidden away behind plugs and sealant to get inside it.

My very early '96 car has the panel secured only by the two wheelbox nuts and copious amounts of sikaflex!

Thanks Peter, I had written the job off as 'inaccessible' but when I saw the post intimating that it was a doddle I just wanted to check.

You obviously have one of the early cars (as I have). The general motto for any job is "first remove the windscreen wipers..." . Getting it back in position under the windscreen seal afterwards is a lot of fun too...

Well, if it is an early model then it obviously spent a lot of time in the salesroom as it was first registered in Sept '01
