I know they run hot, much hotter than the Chimaera. But are there any mods that folks have done to keep temps down?

I need to check the gauge out because it's a little lively when it gets over about 95, starts jumping around, so I need to check it's accuracy, but have you guys done anything to keep them cooler?

I know the RV8 boys fit fan over-ride switches which I suppose I could do but would prefer something that doesn't need me to do anything.

I've left the car idling for a bit and the bigger bladed fan (passenger side) comes on at just over 95 on the gauge, I'd have though the other one should run first?

What temps do yours cut in at?

I think I'll also re-route the capillary tube that feeds the gauge just to keep it out of heats way.

So what else has been done, thought about, disproved?

You can get a cooling chip to pop your fans on sooner.

The temperature for your first fan seems ok as they do vary a few degrees. Only the laptop will tell you the actual temp.

I'm guessing your needle flicks when the engine is really hot. If it does, do does mine.

Yes it does, probably me worrying unnecessarily, but 100 degrees is a mental limit for me, over that I worry, am I wrong to?

Tell me more about the chip? Where would I get one from?

What temp does the second fan come on?

Don't worry about the flick, I don't and my system has been seriously tested.

The chips came from jules but try power for a plug and play chip if your worried and if they have any?

mark had a similar thing a few weeks back, turned out to be the temp sensor about £17 from racing green . Dead simple to fit, fan now comes on at just past 90 & the 2nd fan @ 95ish . My car has an overide switch & a larger alloy rad fitted , I think the temp sensor must have been out for a while.
The gauge used to show 100 - 105 but when I put it on the laptop the readings from the ecu showed 34, so it was not letting the fans kick in + it was running really rich .

I have had the cooling chip fitted and an uprated rad put in just has a few more cores I think and thats it. Its stays at 90 nearly all the time may touch 100 in heavey traffice but it has never overheated since.

I didn't wait that long. It's a quite close where we live and I was conscious of p'ing the neighbours off

This is what I am aiming for. Maybe need to validate the actual temperatures.

I have a cooling chip and a SPA electronic gauge with built in warning alarms just for added peace of mind and not having to constantly stare at the gauge.. worth the money tbh as you get a more accurate reading too

As John mentions the temp sensor is a funny old thing. It's one thing I would change as a matter of course if your having any issues.

On my 4.5 the fans come on at 95 and 98.

When I first got the car I was alittle concerned over the temprature but have been reassured its perfectly normal by Dan at Taylor TVR. He also said the temp gauges do tend to over read so best to plug into a laptop and get a true reading.

Which order should they come on in? The first one on mine cuts in around the 95 mark, and it's the one on the passenger side, larger fins but not so many as the other one.

Take the connection off the temp sensor and both fans should come on together to check they are both working. Which order...you know ive never looked.

If your working on your car now i will check mine.
