Body lift?

Is it possible to lift the body just a couple of inches off the chassis without going through all the hassle associated with full body removal?

Just enough to get to the chassis rail that runs under the doors.

Yes, I have not done it myself but have seen photos of it done. I'm sure someone with more info than I have will be here shortly.

You would probably save yourself having to disconnect the main wiring loom, that's about it.

I have this job looming on my horizon too. Though I am planning to pull the chassis out completely, replace whatever bits of outrigger need replacing, add supports so that both seats are bolted through something other than just fibreglass and have the whole thing blasted, hot zinc sprayed and powdercoated.
