Starter Problems

Got a bit of a problem, the starter came loose while on a track day on Thursday, it was making a dry bearing sort of noise but could not see any thing wrong, sounded initally like it was coming from the alternater rear bearing. Came going home time and decided to attempt to drive her home and with in 2 miles the noise had stopped so all seemed OK.

Went out in her yesterday just a couple of miles, the bearing noise came back so headed home and heard a metalic clattering as I drove back into my drive, that was one of the starter mounting bolts falling out. Any way took the F2 panel off and put said bolt back in place, car would only just turn over, very slow starter motor, just tight. Slackened bolts off and it span over fine and started and ran fine. Decided to tighten up the starter this morning and it now won't engage on the starter ring, just makes that horrible metallic grinding noise when trying to start.

So is there a knack to getting the starter aligned or do you think I have damaged the starter/starter ring?

Sounds like something has been damaged bud.Cant understand why the starter goes tight when you tighten it up?

Mine has a washer between the starter and the bell housing, just like yours it's too tight without it.

Mine has a U shaped plate.

It's also worth ensuring that you have the right length bolts - 35mm.

Sprag Clutch broken, will have to get it rebuilt.
