New owner, Sports Exhausts - Options please..

Hi everyone. I've recently picked up a 4.5 Cerbera and I'm very happy! I bought it at auction so it's a bit of a gamble but I'm quietly confident I've got a good one.

My only niggles are that the speedo doesn't work which is pretty good for a TVR. It's with a TVR independent having a major service now for peace of mind so I'll get that fixed shortly.

I'm keen on getting a sports exhaust. I'm keen on more of a base note rather than ear splittingly loud. I'm happy to leave the cats in there for now. What options are recommended? I've checked ebay and there's nothing available. Also on the classified there is nothing which is strange.

This note seems to be nicest but youtube is perhaps not the best way of evaluating exhausts!

I'm based in London during the week but am keeping the car in Tetbury , Gloucestershire where we live at weekends if anyone is local.

Firstly, congratulations. Secondly, there's a thread on your car, probably a few pages back from when it was spotted online. Thirdly, it was recommended to me initially to try decats first with a standard exhaust, and I'd suggest that's the route you go down first. It adds a little bass to the exhaust note, not too much volume and a little more in the way of overrun shenanigans. As an aside, it also vastly reduces the heatsoak into the cabin through the transmission tunnel so it does have other advantages. Many people on here swear by decats with a standard exhaust being the best option.

Sports + cats = music

I don't like high shrill sounding cars or that tin sound you can get. A deep roar and bbbllllaaaaaaa roar pop bang is for me.

I can't offer you much advice on achieving the right exhaust note, however, I have a 4.2 without Cats and a 4.5 back box - this just about keeps us honest for most trackdays .

Certainly a decatted 4.2 with sports pipes is a formidable noise and actually I love it(I'm just not a fan of bolt on silencers for trackdays). It raucous and rumbling with lots of pops and bangs, but is certainly no sneaking around!

MY 4.2 was decatted when I got it and was very quiet at 96db. I bought some sports pipes from a nice chap on here for a good price and its now just shy of 110db, so useless for trackdays! however I love the sound, its bonkers.

welcome bud hope you enjoy...Decat and sports pipes sound very good,not that load in my opinion but it did sound good with the standard back box too;)

Thanks everyone. I'll try the decat pipes first then if they don't add a lot of volume but make the note a bit more meaty. I'd imagine there are some decent gains too even if I don't remap it.

They look easy enough to fit as well.

I'm missing the car already. I've only managed to drive it three times so far and now the weather is turning I'm looking at winter storage options

The Cerbera will be much happier if you don't store it I run mine all the time and they are all the better for it I can understand all the reasons for storing them though. Just thought I'd throw it into the pot

+1 I use the car all weathers all year, no need to take them off the road for winter, that just lets all the rubber bits go hard.

And yo umiss out on a quick spin round the lanes on a crisp sunny winters morning, heater on full blast windows wide open grinning from ear to ear as you listen to the glorious noise from your decatted Cerb, far to good to miss out on that!!

Wonder if they do winter tyres in Cerb size?

Well the independent has given the chassis a complete clean bill of health which makes me more keen to use it over winter. To be honest it's only a weekend car anyway for me and storage would only be a few miles away. There are other parking considerations etc.

However I am suffering from cracked manifold. The independent is recommending ACT manifolds which are a bit pricey at >£1000. Does anyone know of any other options or where I can source secondhand manifolds?

They are hairline cracks so I have some time. The exhaust has already been welded in the past so I think it's time for replacement.

I have the ACT manifolds and their full decat largebore system, noticeable increase in mid range pick up and the noise is simply brilliant, it is loud though you can hear it hear but it is better in the flesh.
