Having trouble finding the chassis number

I am preparring my recently bought Cerbera (November 1996) for the Dutch registration but can't seem to find the chassis number. What makes it more difficult is that the previous owner has been very (and with that i mean very very) generous with the waxoil..

I have looked on the uprights left and right and tried cleaning the top of the front chassis cross beam (in front of the radiator). I did find the small plate welded to the lower front beam with the engine number but unfortunately not the chassis / VIN number.

Would highly appreciate it if anyone could show me in a picture where i can find the number, otherwise i need to spend a few saturdays getting all of the waxoil from the chassis.

On mine it is on the drivers side top of the cross member that has the fuel cooler mounted to it.

Is there not a plate under the bonnet next to the fans?

I think that is more likely to be the VIN number than the engine number. 13 digits + 4 for the unique identifier

It should look something like this;

SDL CA 11Ax WB00 1234

That would be the 234rd 4.2 AJP Cerbera built in 1998.

Yes, there is indeed and i found that one, but there most also be a number stamped into the chassis.

Ok, but that will not be that same as the VIN number right? Where would that one be located?

The VIN (vehicle identifcation number) is the chassis number.

Your car is an early one. Look at the driversside between the plates where the lower wishbone goes in. On the inside you wil find the chassis/VIN number.

On the crossmember, which you can see under the bonnet, is a short number welded on. If your car is 1996, then this number will have "96" in it. It is a number which tells you in which year and week (or month) your chassis was produced. This is not a chassisnumber. Later Cerbs had the VIN number somewhere on the crossmember too. Mine is an early 1997, but chassis was from 1996.

I had the same problem when I imported my Cerb to Holland, normaly the chassisnumber for these cars are in the wishbone part on the right side of the car, but it is located on the inside and hard to see if you dont know where to look

The vin on my 98 is stamped on top the drivers side suspension mount

I will have a look this weekend at the mentioned spots on the chassis and hopefully find a ''readable'' number :-)

I have had a quick look this weekend but still couldn't find the number. Cleaning the inside of this mount is difficult because i need to scrap waxoil, rust and paint off.

Could anyone explain where inside this mount the number should be located?
