Groaning noise with the lights on?

Heard it the last few nights so thought I'd see whether I'm worrying about nothing. Turn the sidelights on and there's no noise. Twist the dial again to turn on the dipped beam and there's a groaning noise coming from somewhere, probably the dash area.

Anyone had this before?

I get a groaning noise from the kitchen every time the car goes in for a service (shamefully very rarely does the groaning come from the bedroom)

I had something similar. Turning to dipped beam heard an odd noise - it was the connector burning out in the control box in the boot. Shortly aftewards I had no dipped beam. Luckily I was at home at the time!

Cheers BT. Will there be any tell tale signs on the control box, scorch marks on the connections etc?

Yeah - I think its one of the far end connectors. Mine was black. I ended up soldering the wire directly to the board.

Cheers all, Olly it does indeed sound familiar. Do I need the battery disconnected to unplug the connectors from the switch box? Shame I've just read this or I could've checked now, I've been fannying about clearing condensation from the rear lights and gluing bits of carpet back down all afternoon.

Well if you're going to be smart you might as well get it right.....on closer inspection it appears to be a wee bit Audi, a wee'r bit VW and majority Skoda

Feels just like the TVR. Always puts a grin on my face, leather everywhere and I cr@p it when I drive it, just in case it breaks down LOL

The Skoda bit may not be so

Father of a kid where wife works is a director or some such flash title of Bentley in some johnny foreigner place south of here that says behind all the glitz the dash is actually Skoda.

I've not been lucky enough to sit behind of the wheel of either to compare

OK now to get this thread back on track as I remember groaning when light on is a something that happens when young.

After that comes groaning with the lights out whilst trying to not wake the kids and that is followed by no groaning at all and a nice cup of hot chocolate.

So OP there is nothing wrong with your car at all.

Well apart from the control box that is;-)

I am now off for a nice cup of hot chocolate:-(

Back to this thread I've been thinking about this and remembered when I used to turn on my heater I had a grown come from the car. This was thought to be the alternator when it went under a wee bit more load than it was happy with. It only did it for literally for 2 secs. After having to use the car for an entire week as my daily driver as the Merc had blown its rad the noise went away never to return. So guessing have a look there and check the belt and pully is ok.

Just a thought.
