Cerbera 4.5 starting problem

After disabling the alarm and hitting the black button I get dashboard lights illuminating, fuel pump starts up but nothing from the starter.

The solenoid (no.2) is clicking and fuse no.5 is fine.

Anyone got any ideas as to what else I can try / test to find out what's failing.

Yep, fully charged.

Does sound like the battery is shot, have you tried jump starting it? It's worth trying just to eliminate that factor.

It could be the solenoid that is faulty if the battery is good.

Immobiliser is on its way out bud by the sound of it there is a bypass trick you can do which is posted on here,this is a very common problem

By solenoid (No.2) I take it you mean relay?

Check to make sure the 12V feed wire to the solenoid of the starter motor has not become disconnected. If it hasn't it sounds like the solenoid on the starter motor is u/s.

Mine did this when i first got the car,not all the time but always at a stupid moment,like when your showing off to your sister...go to pull away and car wont start,lol i still get teased about it now.

My Cerb wouldn't start on the second press of the black button sometimes so I decided to bypass the immobiliser on the starter circuit by cutting and splicing the red and white wires, now it starts first time every time.

I would suggest caution here - I'm not sure I'd want my car to be left without the immobiliser working, not to mention how your insurance company would treat you if, somehow, they found out...

I just had my alarm system replaced by Carl Baker and whilst it wasn't cheap, I felt it was worth it for peace of mind.

By-passing the immobiliser seems to be treating the symptom, not the cause.

Sorry if I appear to be lecturing, I don't mean to, but please consider the consequences of a short-term solution. Carl did say to me that sometimes he's been called to inspect stolen-recovered cars by the insurance company for just this sort of reason.

I had this, it was a faulty starter motor so fitted a new one, they do have a habit of breaking.

The immobiliser has several different circuits running through it, cutting and splicing the wires only affects the starter motor circuit. The ignition, fuel pump etc will still be immobilised.

I can however see your cencern. I think it's for the individual to decide what option suits them best. I went with the cut and splice option as it didn't cost and could be done in an hour so my car was not off the road as it's my daily driver.

Hi - I'm occasionally getting similar problems. When hot sometimes the ignition turns on but the second press of the button produces nothing other than a click presumably from the solenoid. Is this likely to mean that a) my solenoid is on the way out or b) the immobiliser is causing problems. If b) can someone email me instructions on how to bypass the immobiliser as the topic linked to in this thread has been (probably rightly) removed.

Thanks Robsco - It's not the silver key as I stay well clear of that! Looks like the immobiliser then. Can someone enlighten me (via email) where this beast is located in the car and what wires I need to cut / join?
