I’ve noticed a very occasional mechanical ‘clunk’ when pulling away on full lock that is definitely coming from the rear of the car. Kind of feels like a rusted disk / pad being freed up. The car has a Hydratrack diff, is this normal? I’ve also noticed that sometimes it appears to spin just the 1 wheel. I know these diffs work differently to a normal LSD but I’m not sure if it’s behaving as expected?

Had some lovely broadsides out of junctions on Sunday in the rain though, so it can’t be too bad! (Private road of course)

Cheers,

Rob

i too get this clunk when first pulling away after not being in the car for a few days. I know my diffs are a bit worn, so could be those.

Try a slow pull away on a hill. I noticed I get the same as you and found it always does it on hills.

Im in a Griff 500 though but all the same I'll be following this thread for clues.

(no, its not the roof panel banging around in the boot! Tried it with the roof on yesterday).

gbbird, do you use the handbrake on your car? Does it only happen the once? ieyou will not get more than 1 clunk betweem periods of not using your car for a couple of days? If thats the case then it probably is a slightly rusted up pad / disk interface or handbrake......perhaps?

Dusty, do you have a hydratrack fitted?

No hydrtrak so my post is a bit off topic (I dont think they fitted that diff to Griffs).

I dont apply the handbrake when the car is sitting around. I also know what it feels like if I do!

Mine will make the noise at varying times, perhaps out of a junction or pulling away up a hill.
Perhaps they all do it though and Im just fussy. its a very slight noise/feel.

Hi DC,

Turned out that the top diff bush had snapped. Fernies sorted this out free of charge, glad too as its about 5 hours labour!
