Okay, done the nitrons thing, got the right colour, right wheels. Don't want the sports exhaust.

As I see it only the Emerald thing to go. Whats the final verdict on Austec/APM/Emerald?

Anybody bought one of these and want to raise their head above the parapit?

Hi Julian

well I've got the APM chip in my car, and as I said on an earlier thread (sorry, lack of technical skills prevent me from pasting it here!), it's bl**dy great!

Performed faultlessly on the trip to Le Mans, cold idle is now rock solid, part throttle behaviour between 2-3,000rpm is so much smoother, and seems to run very cleanly (and quickly) from 4000rpm up.

See my earlier thread for more details if you can find it - via my profile, perhaps?

At £200 or so, its the Cerby bargain of the decade!!

cheers

Hi Julian

Had the Emerald ECU/rolling road set up done in April on my 97 4.2 cerbie, had loads of problems with the car prior to the Emerald setup list of problems so long it hurts anyway since dumping that nice MBE unit and the cats everything seems to be running well except for a very slight stutter around 1800 - 2200rpm which i think is down to the crack i have just discovered in the manifold, also the sound and performance are amazing + i don't have to see my neigbours laughing at me everytime the car gets towed away on a low loader, they just look at me strangely something to do with the car being noisey, anyway so far the Emerald job is a success, oh yes cost just under £1000.00

Not sure yet. Don't want to be seen road testing until the MOT is current. Due on thursday. Will likely post friday.

Rear seems very soft at 325.

Didn't you have an aftermarket ECU on your car?

How's selling your car going? I must admit I was very impressed with your car last time I saw it. It put my 2000 model to shame.

Would be very interested in your dyno graphs. Would also like to know whether you've tried playing with the system since it was set up, e.g. altering tickover, adjusting map to pass an MOT emissions etc.

Thanks for the reply, read the thread with interest. But not so keen for two reasons.

Number one, my car is a complete pussy cat at normal town speeds. I'm a gp and take the car out for visits etc. Its a nightmare for the car as it often gets started cold/warm, and has short runs 3-4 miles, and during the day use stays mainly between idle and 3.5K. I can honestly state I've never had stutter and only occasionally problems with a low idle. No problems with pickup and the only flat spot that annoys seems to be 3.5 -4K, and then not much. Anything above that is on the way there or home at which point I get more interested in the upper rev range.

Number two, I worry that the cerb engine is dynamic. In that it ages with time very rapidly. A perfect chip setup now won't be in a year or maybe even after a service. For this reason I'm not sure about the fire and forget of getting an aftermarket chip. I like the idea of the emerald type route because I like to tinker, plus get through MOT's without worrying about needing to bribe someone. I can adapt to faults like idle changes before I have to replace everything, and I can possibly use it as a diagnostic tool.

But mostly because the child in me wants to play

The dyno maps are on Joospeed web site as to tweeking i am sure you can the ECU package comes with the software and manual to do your own setup via laptop if you know your way round that sort of thing, i don't. I think there are some mods due ,traction, octane switch

hi julian

the rear on mine was 325 but was so soft that it kept grounding out it went back and set it up when I got it back still grounded out so much that it broke the exhaust witch peninsula replaced free of charge would other companys do that, anyway they changed the springs to 375 much better. does not bounce around all over the place.

the ecu was changed when I had the new engine put in some thing to do with 2002 spec engine mapping being different just standard ecu though

had a few offers one changed thier mind a the last minute. but car is back at peninsula and engine at TVR peninsula took the engine and took the front cover off to stop the oil leak put the engine back guess what still leaked . to be fair to them they got the cerb back just in time for me to go to le mans and picked up again when I got back. waiting to hear from them on the out come and when I will get it back. the bearing in the diff has now gone so that is being repaired thought it was rear wheel bearings so they have been changed. when I get it back I will re-advertise it.still only got 4500 miles with new engine. will be a great buy for some one.
