GT's are, as far as I know, just early Cerb 4.5s, have seen various different engine sizes quoted/ special body panels and so far all I have seen are different mounting points for front shocks and a few little details/ "GT" in the V5 etc etc...

FWIW, I think theres about 0bhp difference in it. The only cars that come close to all the GT hype are the old factory cars with 4.7's that were made for friends of PW and the man himself.

£24K as an opening bid is optimistic, its been for sale at Thames Valley Racetech for some time at £25K. Used to be owned by a chap in Windsor, used to see it parked on the street.

Was considering making an offer.

Very slightly different displacement, slightly different suspension, different throttle bodies and a smidge of kevlar where there is usually GRP.

5 made, the first five (I think).

I had a friend who was on the GT waiting list for a year from late 96'( the original GT was going to have 18" magnesium wheels, Tuscan brakes, fared in lights and carbon "everywhere"), then in 97 TVR decided to drop the GT and bring out the 4.5, the first few cars were extremely fast, my friend had one and it would leave a 4.2 for dead in a straight line, i can only assume that the customers who were on the GT waiting list were sold cars with GT engines.

I think the tuscan racers only make 450 so it would seem unlikely , Dave

I have a so-called GT...

If it produces 500bhp I'll eat my hat!

It has a few lightweight bits and pieces, GT written on the ECU though what that means inside the ECU is anyones guess, it's got slightly lower front suspension settings, it pulls extremely well, better than my first Tusc which dyno'd at 380bhp.

It also runs on clatter cams. I'm not enough of a Cerbophile to know how many 4.5's run on clatter cams though so this may not be special at all!

If anything it is only producing what the brochures say ie 420BHP and nothing more (if that)...

Regards

DC

Cheers...

I don't think the interior was part of the GT spec more of a personal touch I fear!

Still it works OK to my eyes...

All the best

Thats interesting Dai( not just your interior)I have just had the red rose conversion done to my heads and was wondering whether to use the late cams or the early clatter/tuscan racer cams .As my girlfriend will probably not let me keep the car would people generally accept the noisier cams if it means more power.I also have "GT" written on my ecu but will of course change to the RR chip , Dave

The clatter cams are really only noticeable when the engine is cold. Once warm the noise tends to receed either that or the exhaust gets louder .

There seems to be some concern as to the longevity of clatter cams, though a friend of mine has turned 50K miles in his and the cams are fine, mine has done 18K and mine are fine too.

Personally it wouldn't bother me whether it had clatter cams and it wouldn't stop me buying the car. I guess the call would depend on what TVR said the power gain would be.

Cheers

I asked TVR Power what if they would work with the RR heads . They said they would work well but would not give any idea on figures (as usual) Dave

autotrader link here

just seen that in autotrader. If there's so few GT's, two for sale at the same time is a bit odd isn't it?? Anyhow...I quite like the look of this car (forgetting the fact that it's a GT). I'm in the running for a Cerb at the moment (been trying to buy a 4.5 for a while). Is there anything extra to look out for...it being a "GT" ? I.e. services required sooner etc. etc. (though from everyone's comments above, it seems it should just be treated as normal I guess!?!)

Thanks everyone
Tony

Isn't that the one that was for sale recently at Peninsula?

I think the Peninsula advert stated that it was the only one in Diablo Purple.

Tony,

The yellow has never not been for sale as far as I know so don't read too much into two being up for grabs at the same time

I have mine looked after as per a 4.5 and would see no reason to do otherwise.

One thing worth saying though is that if you spot a nice 'normal' cerbie and a scruffy GT for the same price going for the GT really isn't worth it.

I brought mine solely because it's a great car - I really couldn't care less that it says GT on the order forms and it's scrawled on the ECU - if the car's a good 'un go for it (and it looks nice enough)

Cheers

Thanks DC.

I suspected the approach would be the same and the way you treat them.

Does anybody know for sure if this was for sale at Peninsula recently? Mind you, I could just ring them up I'm sure they'd tell me.

I think the price looks a bit OTT (perhaps £2k off of that) but I'm well tempted to go and take a look (it is 200miles + away so it's not a case of nipping down for a look!!!)

Thanks for your help guys. Think I might give the guy a ring later

If you think that price looks OTT ..... - Peninsula had it up for £29995 I think!!!!!

The only difference I can see (other than price!) was the one at Peninsula had silver spiders fitted (I took notice because I really liked the purple colour).

I expect it is the same car - hell of a coincidence otherwise.

It was also at Peninsula for some work late last year when I called in for the throttle pots to be adjusted.

It's also featured on the TVRBodyshop website in their gallery section - post light job (the one described as GT lightweight - not the rear end repair).

£30k !?!

Seems hellish expensive!!

Anyhow, think I will give the guy a ring later tonight. Obviously he's not a member from here!

Are you sure the one on TVRBodyShop is the same? It looks like it has cream interior, whereas the one on autotrader says it has portland grey!?
