Upcoming trackday - how do I check oil properly?

I'm considering doing a trackday at Bedford on 26th November. The car has just had a full service so is in good health and the brakes are almost new so I'm happy with the cars preparation.

I expect the car will drink some oil but I'm struggling to work out the best method for doing so.

I've tried when warm and cool. When the stick comes out the whole lower section is covered in oil. I find when checking i need to twist it 90 degrees where it drops and locks. I assume this is the position where it should measure from ? I think this action is causing the stick to splash around and cover the stick

I know you can leave the car overnight with the stick out and check in the morning when the tube will have drained properly but it's not really ideal.

Am I worring too much? Should the stick just be oily above the max mark when it comes out?

The accepted method is to take the dipstick out over night and try it in the morning, you get one go at this.

If you head out on track with it topped up to the max you will be fine for the day unless you have a real problem with a leak or burning huge amounts of oil.

On another point, Beford is a quiet track, unless you have a very quiet Cerb I doubt you will get on.

My Cerbera is running the standard system for now. Thats why I'm doing Bedford now why it's cheap due to being Autumn and the car had it's cat fitted.

I'm hoping this is quiet enough!

When it's hot it's much easier to check as the oil that is drawn up the tube via suction will return back down quicker when it is thinner.

Check in the morning by leaving the stick out.

Check at Midday by leaving the stick out for 5-10 mins when hot.

You should see little change.

When I was running mine with cats I could just get on Bedford, but then mine was renowned for being very quiet.

How much oil is needed between the minimum and maximum marker? Mine always seems to read just over halfway, but then I'll only top it up by 200ml or so at a time out of paranoia, and just in case the reading is inaccurate (which I'm sure it will be!).

Mine will take about 1 ltr min to max

I tend to measure oil level when engine cold. I lean across from n/s wing and I remove dipstick, clean it and reinsert without the final twist / lock. Remove and check. Generally it works well this way.
