Steaming up/poor ventilation.

Perhaps I'm doing something wrong, but how on earth do I get the fans to clear the windscreen? As far as I can see, the only method is by closing up the eyeball vents and dash vents...? I've closed all the vents up, fans on full blast and I can't feel any air coming out of the windscreen vents at all. I know the fans aren't the best anyway, but surely there should be something? It almost makes the bloody thing undrivable because it steams up in the cabin like its going out of fashion.

May not help Rob ,but I put the fans on & crack the windows open a tad too.Seems to work for me,but my fans may kick out a bit more air.

Now then Dave. Yes I've been driving with the windows ajar to try and help the situation, but its bloody freezing out there! Can't help with your door alignment unfortunately, sorry.

I know you said full blast but have you pressed the fan control along with turning them fully on?

Bad misting in any car is often caused by a build up of water/dampness in the carpets/upholstery interior etc.

I had to buy a dehumidifier for my cars in the end, I bung it inside the car overnight once a month or so to suck all the moisture out and bobs your uncle it'a great again.

You can fight a depressing losing battle using the car heater/demister in these circs.

Use your air con to help dry the interior air. Should clear the screen quicker. Another tip is to buy some rain x anti foggy liquid and apply to the interior glass should also help

I have definitely turned the fans on Mick, you can hear them working overtime. Have I adopted the right method for air direction?

Thanks for suggestions chaps, dehumidifier and some Rain X next on the shopping list.

I have to sometimes use the hot and cold fans together to get enough air flow to speed things up, but just the hot air fan usually does the job.. however, when the engine is hot it seems to pull hot moist air and sometimes mists things up even more!

Replacing the windscreen with a heated one was the only way that I finally beat this. My passenger side would clear just fine leaving the drivers side fogged no matter what I did.

Also sounds like your windscreen vents aren’t working right. I have a fair breeze out of mine. Maybe the ducting has come loose? Most seems to be push fit.

cat litter or I bought a "Moisture mate" £4.99 from Halfords
& so far have had no more condensation at all.

Edited to add ,if you use the cat litter its also
useful if(when) you spill oil/brake fluid etc on the drive as it soaks it up double quick & stops a stain!

Silica gel, the stuff you find in shoe boxes can be bought in large packs. Leave a bag or two of that about and it'll suck up moisture like a sponge. Once a week swap it/them for some dry ones that have been in the airing cupboard. Works on my Mrs's Freelander - the boot floor would always be wet, not anymore!

I found that desiccant worked great for keeping the car moisture free while it wasn't in use, but that the drivers side screen fogged up when you were in the car due to breath condensing on the cold screen. The heater did a reasonable job of warming the passengers side of the windscreen but didn't have sufficient airflow to reliably clear the drivers side. A heated screen does the job in 20 seconds.

This- but as with the silica gels, it works best when the interior is warm and the air is saturated.. as the weather gets colder they will find it harder to soak up the water vapour..I usually have 2, one in each rear foot well!

I think you'll find the main problem is the cabin area is sealed, so kind of works like recircled air.

Opening window just a tad will allow the blower to push out air alot easier.

Atleast thats what happens on mine.

Before or after the cat's used it?

Mine doesn't let in water but still steams up from time to time. Fans are no good, so driving with the window open is the only solution I can offer. Get that sports exhaust and you'll have good reason to do it, whether it's January or July

The cabin shouldn't be sealed. the air comes in through the holes under the front indicator and passes through the wings into the cabin. However a lot of people have modified this to prevent cold air drafts around the drivers footwell and also to create a recycled system in the hopes of boosting winter cabin temperature. The problem with this is it causes the cabin to mist up.
Check the carpets are not wet/damp as this will not help. Also the blower pipework is not the best and leaks around the joins in the system so the full power of the blowers leaks out before it gets the the vents. I used silicon to seal my pipes up this helped a great deal.
