Or, the person mapping it could just map it correctly with the correct compensations for coolant temp, air charge temp and fuel grade.
Also the owner needs to be aware that if you have your car mapped to the "limit" you need to be wary about fuel grade, ambient temp, oil levels etc etc etc when giving it beans.
If you increase the heat range you could induce cold start issues due to plug fouling.

Sure, perfect mapping is the ideal. Also the owner needs to be aware that if you have your car mapped to the "limit" you need to be wary about fuel grade, ambient temp, oil levels etc etc etc when giving it beans.
If you increase the heat range you could induce cold start issues due to plug fouling.
I am just interested as to whether anyone has tried colder plugs?
And the pros and cons?

Hello,
Reading the forums, a fair few AJP8's have been lost to detonation after they have been remapped.
Has anyone tried using colder plugs?
NGK BKR5EKU is what I'm using at the moment, you can get BKR6EKU or even BKR7EKU.
Any opinions for or against trying colder plugs?
Regards
Duncan
Its too much ignition timing at around peak torque, plugs wont cure that.Reading the forums, a fair few AJP8's have been lost to detonation after they have been remapped.

Thanks Paul, I'll stick with the standard ones.
Spitfire, I am not great at searching the forums. But there was a thread discussing AJP8 tuning and a couple of people mentioned that chasing bhp and running the engines lean can make them less reliable/prone to det and HG failure.
And this:http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&t=1080147&hw=+%2Bdetonation&nmt=Decisions%20decisions%20and%20non%20of%20them%20nice
I don't have specific failure information other than that.
