Out in the cerb this morning and noticed that the gear stick jumped out of 2nd gear. This has happened a few times before but i thought i didnt engage second gear properly. Once it's in gear though it neve jumps out. Any thoughts and potential problem?

Also my clutch pedal feels a bit different this morning(just as someones coming to see the car as well) What luck!!!. Anyway i've booked it into get checked out at Noel Flannerys place in Drem. There are no pools of oil anyhwere. Have read all the stuff about master and slave cylinders but doenst seem to be those symptoms directly. The gears are a shade harder to select although I could be imagining this now! Infact there almost easier to get in when the car is cold??

Any thoughts of whats going on???

Cheers,

Had a couple of similar incidents en-route to Le Mans..2nd gear jumped out twice, mainly when changing down from 3rd to 2nd, and I put it down to a bit of 'numpty driving' on my part on these occasions, as it had never happened before. Must admit though it was when the car was warm, (after 3 hours of driving..), but I must add that I havent noticed that the clutch is any stiffer or that the gear selection is in anyway 'notchy or stiff'. I hope that its not the clutch pressure plate-finger syndrome begining to happen!.......

should I order a new clutch now so I have one if it does breakdown???

I had this problem on mine for quite a while too, last year. I had to make a point of being very firm with 2nd or it would quite often pop out again, particularly when slowing down.

Then, I was driving on the M40 one day - blasting it in 4th and just after I had changed up to 5th and put my foot down it wanged back out and the revs went right round the dial. I thought it was me, but then it kept doing it until eventually I couldn't select 5th at all and 2nd was becoming more difficult.

Without 5th I had to take it in and they (Topcats) rebuilt the gearbox. Since then all the gears, including 2nd have been fine. I don't know what the exact diagnosis was but it was definitely the gearbox for mine.

Anyway, I hope it goes away and you don't get problems with 5th aswell!

Be very careful accelerating hard in fifth at 50-70mph, there is so much torque you can end up stripping fifth gear!!!

Just something Ive made up!...just that you hear of the problems people have with clutches from time to time, where the fingers break... you get a minor hiccup which may well never develope into anything major, but paranoia can take over, and before you realise it this leads to "clutch pressure plate syndrome'.....

Ahhh haa i see!

Took Trev down to Noel Flannerys today. Second gear popping out is caused by the fact the leather around the gear stick gets in the way of it fully engaging into second. It actually needs some of the 'hole' cut away as theres not really enough room. THat'll be a hand made feature then! Phew!

Clutch is also fine no fluid loss, master and slaves are working perfectly.

Looks like i did have paranoid clutch syndrome!

Sorry jnr but accelerating from 50-70 I am NEVER in 5th. Always in third and flooring it. Only stick it into 5th at 110!!
