When the window is closed, and I accelerate gently (so there’s half a chance of hearing things), I've noticed that there’s a bit of a dry gear sort of sound from somewhere in the transmission. I checked the oil in the gearbox and all seems to be OK. Not attempted the diff yet (difficult beasts to get under).

I’ve heard all sorts of whines and grinds from race car transmissions, and am sort of hoping that "they all do that".

I don't think I've got a hydratrack to worry about

Having had a look under the Cerb myself, how did you check the gearbox oil?

The only way I could see was too drop the exhaust, as the fill plug is right up where you can't get at it.

The space between the Gearbox and the exhaust was too tight to get my decent 1/2 drive in, so I used a cheap 3/8's with a 1/2 converter on it. Still took a little tap to get the head past the exhuast. There was actually more oil in than the plug - most went in my eye. At least it was slightly warm. (I think I got the sizes right there)

Ive checked the diff too now, and thats OK for oil too. Both are not discoloured in any way.
