AIR CON wiring
Discussion
I know that there are lots of probs with the air con on the cerb and mine is one of them. Ive checked throught the old threads and looked at all of that good stuff, recharge is done but still no joy.
When you switch on the ac, the heater control in the footwell clicks but thats it no power to the clutch. If you put 12v to the clutch it cuts in straight away.
Does anyone have a wiring diagram for the system. Also I cant find any fuse or relays anywhere and find it hard to believe that the heater control box does everything.
Thanks in advance

Ahhh, I may be interested in an answer to this also. Mine has had pipes replaced and regassed etc, but the clutch doesn't seem to kick in when you press the button. I don't get that familiar drop in revs like you do in other cars either.
Where did you stick the 12V on the A/C to check the clutch?

Straight from the battery +ive onto the wire coming from the pump unit.
You dont need the engine running to check the clutch solenoid it will just clunk and you will see it pull in.
Obviously this just proves the clutch, youll need it running and do the same to see if system works this will prove that you have a wiring fault or one of the other components is up the duff.

Your problem might be traced to one of the following: a fuse (obvious), the A/C relay (you should be able to hear it clicking in the passenger footwell once the engine is warm) or the system pressure switch which is located on the receiver/drier.
The receiver/drier is a sealed cannister filled with a substance similar to silica gel and removes moisture from the refrigerant. It is mounted in the passenger wheel well in the space behind the front indicator, and can be found attched to the vertical rectangular access panel between the wheel and the arch. You will probably need to remove the passenger front wheel to get to it.
Anyway, once you have found the receiver/drier you will see the pressure switch screwed into the top of it. This is an electrically operated safety device and prevents the air con clutch from engaging if the system pressure is too high (e.g. on a very very hot day of if it has been over-gassed) or too low (e.g. if it needs a re-gas). A quick test with a multimeter will help to eliminate it as the problem.
If it is the pressure switch, you can only replace it with the system de-pressurised.
Hope this is of some help.
Good luck!
