A Different Annoying Flapping Noise - from Fan

HNY to all. An amazingly wet and miserable first day drive back to work. Great. The earlier post prompted me to ask about the annoying noise from my warm fan, I did search earlier topics that Robsco mentions but can't find anything. My fan generally rattles, very annoyingly - it sounds as if it comes from the screen demisters, and if I open the flaps below the dash top then the frequency alters, and will sometimes stop. Sounds like a leaf, or something more metallic is stuck in there. Is this a known problem, I don't really want to go rummaging around taking the dash to bits, but it's also getting too cold to drive with the window down to drown out the rattles. Well, almost.

When I first removed the hot fan on mine, I cleared almost two carrier bags full of leaves out of the inner wing and hot air box so it could very well be a leaf. Unfortunately there isn't a particularly easy way to get to it apart from dismantling the passenger footwell and stripping the carpet out.
You sure its coming from the fan? I had/have an intermittent clattery noise in that area but its actually the n/s bonnet catch rattling against its stop, the noise comes through the dash. To stop the noise I line the catch with foam but eventually the foam/sponge wears out and the clatter starts again!
It could also be the air flap that directs either hot or cold air. I amy be wrong but from memory this stops the warm air when the cold air is on and cold air when warm air is on working on pressure from either side.
It jingles around a bit but definitely could not be mistaken for a leaf type sound. Deffo sounds metallic.
