Car coming soon. A few questions please

Hi all. I am picking up my very original Sp6 in the next couple of weeks. It is having a 12k at Castle Tvr before I collect it.

Having not had any engine rebuilds (or so it seems) do I need to be on my guard looking for telltale signs ? Or are there others out there that haven't been rebuilt ? Reading the threads it seems that the Sp6 is temperamental , but maybe I will be one of the lucky ones. Your opinions please. Look forward to seeing some of you at a meet soon. Cheers. Dazza

I'd say a combination of luck, but good servicing/maintenance as well. Theres a couple of polls about milage vs rebuild. If I recall correctly, 40-60k is about average.

Depends on a combination of age, service, owners and who built the engine but at least you know what your walking in to.

I've been out in mine three times this week but I know others that will not see the road for months a fatal error.

Enjoy your car as you see fit and that is on the road and not collecting dust and rust.

Make sure you warm it up before you give it the full Bhoona, They are a bit rough/lumpy until they get to temperature but once warmed up it is a fantastic engine.enjoy.

As far as i can tell my 03, 26,000 mile Tamora has not had an engine rebuild, so my engine "barometer" is 352bhp on the dyno and the thumbs up from the garage who look after it!

I have a 4.5 but warm it up for 10 niles below 3000 rpm ,it is coming upto 57000 miles and is original , ive done 20000 in 4years with no issues so i must be doing something right , one thing use it when you can cerbs sulk when not in use, mine was used 3 days ago but is covered in 5 inches of snow as we speak so not today !!.

I looked at your Cerb a couple of times. The car was previously for sale with Barnet TVR before they moved it on to Castle 18 months ago.

As it moved very little over the past 2 years, DRIVE it as much as you can whilst you have a warranty - flush out any potential issues that way. Make a note of oil consumption.

If memory serves me the car was serviced at Harrogate HC - phone them and ask for detail of servicing.

I was puzzled as to why the car hadnt been sold as it seems to have been serviced regularly and been very well looked after ? Doesn't seem to be anything fundamentally wrong with it , maybe it was too expensive ? I have got it for what I considered was a good price after having looked at a few others that weren't as nice Maybe I will call Harrogate and get some feed back. Thanks for your comments. Dazza

Hi Dazza, were you at Castle on the 25th looking at the Cerbra about 1100am or so? If so, I remember seeing you there taking pictures of it and getting the keys from Ed. I was there picking up my Evora.

That Cerb has been there for quite a while, if the one you bought was the purple and cream one. Always thought it was a nice looking car and slightly surprised no one bought it earlier.

The absence of any invoices or paper work showing any previous work done made me think twice.
As lovely and original as your car is, save the front end respray, I think most buyers would have looked for suspension upgrades, starter motor work, clutch work etc and reassurance (evidence of an inspection by the likes of Power or Str8 6) that the engine is in rude health for the kind of money they were asking.
Like I said, put miles on the car and flush out any potential issues quickly.
