Right so I have a new wiper motor.
Just opened the car to swap them over and I have a feeling I am missing something.

The correct way to do this looks like..

Remove inner bonnet
remove expansion tank
remove wiper motor

replace wiper moter..etc, etc.

What I'm worried about is the expansion tank, I have the yop pipe off with no bother, the bottom pipe is very stiff and awkward and so hard to lever out, the thought then crossed my mind that if I pull the bottom pipe then I'm going to fill the engine bay with antifreeze and water, not good.

So I was wondering, is there a better way? Can I somehow leave the tank connected?
Does the tank bottom connector haev a one way valve in it so I can disconnect it with no fear of we feet?
If I do end up with an empty tank will I have to bleed the rad?

Any other handy hints for folks who have done this?

I could really do with some help here.

Thanks as usual

My wiper motor has packed in aswell. Here's how I did it....

1, Realise motor has packed in.
2, Phone HHC
3, Book car in for new motor.

Easy as that, thank god for warranties.

removal of the motor is a bas**rd. I left the bottom tank hose connected. You will have to bend the tank support frame to get it out & bend it back into place once finished. you will also need to open up the motor in situ to disconnect the linkage. Good luck.

We removed both the tank and the frame. The bottom hose was also on its last legs, so we replaced it at the same time. Even when the tank was back in place, the host was not entirely straight. We came to the conclusion that redesigning the bracket which holds the tank (in 2 parts) would be a good option to fix the problem and make the task easier...

The trick is to get one of those suction pumps that are used to fill gearboxes etc, undo the bleed valve in the rad and us the pump to suck the coolent out into suitable containers. No mess and the coolent can be reused.

Steve, good plan (I can syphon it), where on the rad is the bleed valve?

Once I have done this I intend to take the old motor to our local rewinders to see what they make of it.

We could then do a Pistonheads exchange service

My wiper motor has now been replaced.

Unfortunately, it's also burnt out the control box which isn't covered under warranty

At least I won't get coolant pissing on the floor to change that

I wouldn't think you'd get much spillage, after all the expansion tank is one of the highest points in the cooling system.

Must be the season for it, my wiper motor seems to have packed up too! Be interested to hear how you got on.......meanwhile, I'll just go and finish putting some Rain-X on
