Diff refurb options
Discussion
Hello all,
I've got the body off for chassis refurb, and the diff is out, so I'm just wondering what's the best option for the diff:
It's a 4.2 (so almost certainly non-hydratrak) on 70k miles, and it's leaking from the rear cover. There's a small amount of drivetrain shunt in town traffic but nothing to speak of. There's a bit of play (one wheel turned about 2 inches with the other on the ground)
Does anyone know any good diff refurbishers in the sout east? Is it even worth refurbishing? should I just re-seal the rear cover and bolt it back in??
cheers
Paul

If you are doing slack from one wheel to the other, then you have the slack from 4x CV joints and the diff.I've got the body off for chassis refurb, and the diff is out, so I'm just wondering what's the best option for the diff:

Grab the input side and then feel for slack there.
If you have a good contact between the teeth, measure with engineers blue and look for all over contact, then you might get away with just a tweak on the adjusting lockers.
Those alloy lockers that screw into the casing can be tighter than the tightest thing, i can speak from experience having rebuilt my own.

Thanks Brummie. I'll be brave and crack it open over the weekend and try those things. Meanwhile here are some pictures of the oily case:

Looks like it's coming out of everywhere
Is the nipple on the top a breather or a filler?
That is a Breather. The fill point is on the side with that metal Tag And the drain is the Lower back plate bolt. There are a few Pictures of mine and spongys kicking around just now.Looks like it's coming out of everywhere
