Chaps,

Question - As you know the silicone intake hoses are as standard setup to go from the airbox to engine so they overlap like "knitted fingers". However, I've seen some photos where there are shortened hoses which connect from the airbox to the trumpets directly without this "knitting" effect. It would seem to me this would permit for bigger and less interuppted airflow, and possibly improve performance. Not least less chance of the hoses getting worn due to engine heat. Is this true?

Yes. smile Will need a re-map (chip) to suit, though.

You don't NEED one as the maps are way over-fuelled anyway. To release the full benefit you do.

However, if you have the early collapsing hoses without the wire then the short kit will be an improvement.

As ridds says you can get away without a chip change, but as I throw in a chip for freebies with my kits anyway you'd be silly not to use it smile My chip takes fuelling out of the bottom end where the already over-fuelled engine would be even worse with short pipes where the airflow is less than std. Above 3k revs though you'll start to see benefits. I've taken a bit more fuel out of the top end too where they'd previously been set very safe but they're still safe now just a bit better for hp. Are you up to 390hp now ridds?

I have fitted one of these kits to my Cerb with the chip and without re-map and noticed a substantial improvement in performance especially in pickup from low revs.......well recommended.P.S. usually known as `short-induction kit`.

When I bought my car it ran the standard chip with short induction pipes, pinked like mad, did a chip chaange on my desk at work one day, I can still remember on the way home the expeative that I uttered when I floored it for the first time, "holy fornication" is roughly what I said, what a difference.

Would you be able to send me a PM as I'd like to know more about this. Are these the ACT items?

Only thing I miss is the "Special K" sounds. power and mpg are both improved.

Thanks for the hoses - would I be better off sticking with the standard chip on mine since my heads have been skimmed? More compression, less fuel, no knock sensors - surely a recipe for disaster.

the new chip is still plenty rich so i don't see any issues. You can always get a dyno run done to check the mix if you like

Hi Mike wavey
Had mine done a while ago now (with new "cool" chip and Rolling Road set-up).
26% increase in power, reduction in consumption and a much smoother delivery over 3000 rpm. drivingcloud9
The only glitch was an increase in a blip between 2100 and 2400 rpm, which I already partially suffered from. A real PITA when cruising in town and blipping to change-down.
Still looking to reduce this readbangheadscratchchin

Yep, full 390 with slightly cracked exhaust manifolds. smile
