Any help near Darlington

Just came up on second trip to Darlington from home near Gt Yarmouth ( 2 trips in 2 weeks and enjoying the miles)and starter motor seems shagged. Confirmation required but now spinning but not engaging, started off just sounding less positive than normal. It also rattles as if cog rubbing against flywheel .
Just had a lot of work done including new flywheel so not wanting to damage it.
Are there any good dealers near bye to Darlington that could replace my starter for me?
I am checked into a hotel and trying to sort. ANY ADVICE APPRECIATED.

Sprag clutch sounds like it is FUBAR, rebuild time I am sorry to say.

thanks for quick response. Can you expand sprag clutch for me. I have just had a new clutch and lightened flywheel so hoping not to damage these.

Try calling tony at hexham horseless .. might be able to send a guy out in a van tomorrow morning with a new starter ? cant really think of anyone closer.

It is inside the starter where the shaft that the gear rides on comes out of the main casing where the actual motor is, there are internal gears bearings and a small clutch that sometimes breaks up. The cure is a rebuild of your starter motor I am afraid.

Will not effect your main clutch or starter ring so long as you do not keep trying it with the teeth not meshing then you could wear the starter ring.

Also have you made sure that your starter has not just come a little loose?

I have the same problem from time to time. The link to the starter rebuild kit above is very helpful thanks - now it's getting the thing out of the back of the engine bay that's going to be the problem!

I have changed one myself, its a bit tricky, but you can do it without having to take to much out, think I just removed one air box.
