Help!! Tamora to Cerbera
Discussion
I have owned my Tamora for 2 years now and thoroughly love the car, but within that time my family has grown to "3". So the Tam has now become more of a commute car than a weekend pleasure (which is not why I bought her). TVR is a great passion of mine so to keep in the fold and allow the rest of my family to take a part The Cerbera seems to have the answer. Can anyone advise me (from experience) on how easy it is to fit a 2 year old in the back (with a booster seat), is their enough room and until what age will it become impractical? The car I am looking at is a 4.5LW registered in March 03, I hope to be test driving it on Saturday. Is their anything specific that I should look/listen for when driving it? The car has done 6000 miles, FSH and will come with 12 mnth warranty.
Lastly the S6 engine of the Tam has been faultless, very easy going and is happy in traffic or motorway, I realise that the V8 will run much hotter but is it user friendly or a bit of an animal?
any help would be appreciated
Cheers
Glenn

It has been covered before, but as I've got a 2 and a 3 year old I thought I'd make it simple for you !
Although some standard car seats 'fit' (such as Britax Eclipse/Freeway), they are actually too deep, and overhang the back seat by an 'unacceptable' amount (according to some car seat expert or other that I've talked to about this). The only seat I could find that would fit in the car (and be safe) was the Recaro (available from www.motorsportworld.co.uk for about £160). There is also a TVR child seat, but I think they cost a bit more (about £300 iirc) - I think this is the one that Sbaby has isn't it SGirl ?
Both the Recaro and the TVR seat can be bought with 'comfort packs' which mean that even ickle bubs can be transported safely (I think the comfort pack is required up to about 1 year old).
My 2 year old sits in the Recaro seat, very safe and secure, and also very happy about it (it even has speakers in the headrest so you can plug in 'Bob the Builders Top Ten' to keep them quiet. He's been in there from the age of about 22 months when we bought the car.
My 3.5 year old does not have a car seat. There is no way that his legs would fit in if we tried putting him in a Recaro, he'd be very uncomfortable. Instead, we bought him a contraption from Tesco which clips onto the seat belt diagonal and lap straps, in order to pull the shoulder strap down and across the shoulder into a safe position. It cost about £8. We initially tried this with the 2 year old, but he was just too floppy and little and definitely needed the extra safety provided by the car seat.
I suppose the 3.5 year old could have a booster seat instead of this seat belt strap thingy, but the seats are so narrow I'd be worried about it tipping over, he seems much more secure sitting on the normal seat, with his feet on the floor.
So, (excuse my rabbiting on), I would recommend that you get a Recaro for your 2 year old (or TVR seat) and keep him/her in that until such a point as his/her legs don't fit (which will be in a year or two).
I have seen Cerberas about at various events with 8-12 year olds in the back, still fitting comfortably (or so it appears)
Hope that helps
Penny
P.S. and the boot's great as well for getting all your kiddy stuff in !

Not too bad really, although I've not quite mastered parking it (other than in Tescos, and then only if I can find a Mum and Baby spot, otherwise I park at the other end of the car park so I don't hit anything, and no-one hits me !) Not that it's too hard, just I'm too scared of hurting it ! (we've not had it long)
It's fine around town, once you're used to it. We've just had a new clutch fitted which has made a huge difference.
Athough having said that, it's funny because if I need to get somewhere quickly I'll always take the Peugeot instead, which is a completely bizarre thing to say, but it's purely because I'm used to it (and not that my 306 is a MUCH quicker car!)
Having said that, I do like taking the boys to playschool in it, just to upset the other mums
Just read this back, sound like a right bint !!

If you liked the speed six in the Tamora then why not look at a speed six Cerbera. Around town the speed six is generally considered to be slightly smoother but it's all down to personal taste. Drive both and see which you prefer.
The turning circle is naff on the Cerbera, but you do get used to it after a while.
If you do fall on the side of the speed six Cerbera let me know as I have a fully sorted Crystal Topaz one for sale!

Good post, thanks Penny. Got my car 2 weeks ago and told 'er indoors that we can take the kids out, but need to find a child seat that fits. Penny, which model Recaro seat is it? My current car seat in the Audi is very safe & solid but a huge behemoth of a thing, probably have to rip out the front passeger seat to get the bugger in (the seat, not Eloise!). Thats the 2 year old sorted I hope. Guess the 2 month old will be able to go rearward facing in his babyseat and the wife will have to learn some Yoga & squeeze in behind my seat? Oh so snug, but better than trying to fit a child seat on the parcel shelf of my old Griff :-)

Ours is the Recaro start, which according to the website is suitable from 15kg (approx 3.5 yrs), but its a bit ambiguous, as the label on the seat itself says from 9kg to 30kg.
I've just found www.recaro-seats.co.uk/childsafety.asp which lists all the recaro seats/specs. Ours is definitely the Start and not the Start Pro, but it fits our 2yr old perfectly (he is quite a chunky lad), plus I also use it for the 3.5 year old in my Peugeot, as its one of the best seats around for kids aged 3 and above (ie, once they've grown out of the seats with integral harnesses).
Halfords do them too (although more expensive), but it means you can test one out in the car (and check the kid fits) before buying for a cheaper price on-line (bit cheeky, but then aren't we all).
Good luck, and I hope you, your misses, and kids, have as much fun in yours as we do in ours !!

Don't know about the 2yr old varieties as ours are 11yr & 15yr and I can't remember that far back but I think Mrs Bluecerbera has covered it well. What I would say is that for up to 9 or 10yr olds the Cerb is fantastic. After that, they still fit but start complaining a little more - thankfully with a V8 on sports exhaust you won't hear them.
Not sure if Cerb turning circle is any better or worse than a Tamora, they all seem to be c
p. Around town their not the easiest but with increased confidence are fine - although I do admit to going to extraordinary lengths to avoid jams and keep moving.

Penny, you are right, tho' there are many derivatives and I try to convince myself that it isnt really 'that' French, or I'll have to go buy a Renault Clio or something. Means famous in battle, which is just about what happens every bedtime! Ahh bless :-)
Good luck with your tries for a girl, does Mr Blue Cerbera know your plans or you just gunna sneak it up on him? <g>
