Oil filter sandwich plate
Discussion
I have just taken delivery of a SPA dual gauge. Whilst I have the coolant side sorted out I have a couple of questions regarding the oil side.
Firstly what thread size is the filter used?
Would a sandwich plate with a oil thermostat be a good idea to allow the oil to warm up quicker?
any recommendations for a sandwich plate to use?

Im thinking of fitting one of these

not cheap, but i think its worth it

That looks like just what i'm after, shame it only has one take off for a gauge as i want two ideally but sure that can be over come.
Want to run pressure on the SPA gauge and get a temp gauge.
Looking at seperate sandwich plates and oil thermostate the greedy one is around the same price once added up.

Im not sure why you want two take offs for gauges.Want to run pressure on the SPA gauge and get a temp gauge.

Whats wrong with keeping the exsisting oil pressure gauge thats fitted as standard, and use the one on the greedy for your temp gauge.
Thats what i plan to do
I fitted an oil stat on the nearside chassis rail above the water pipes and steering rack along with new hoses, cooler and filter housing.
The filter housing is the MIH TVC100.
It has 4 inlet/outlets so the flow can be either way as needed. The 2 unused ports are blanked off with plugs but can be replaced with 1/2BSP male to female adapters of the size needed for the senders. The only downside is it comes with 1/2BSP to 10JIC adapters so if keeping the existing hose you would need to buy new adapters. (That is of course assuming you can actually unfasten the existing hoses - they tend to corrode into the filter housing)

I'll be using the spa dual digital gauge for more accurate readings. Its nerving with the original gauge sometimes sticks. I usually wait when starting the car for the coolant temp to reach 70-80 degress before driving. So having an oil temp gauge will give a good indication of when the car is ready, with the oil stat allowing the engine to warm up quicker. Just a question or two for engine numpties like me.....
When the thermostat opens aren't you just then injecting cold oil at high pressure into a warm/hot engine? And could that cause problems? If the cooler is that effective, would this happen a number of times per journey as the oil temp drops when in circulation?
Apologies if these are questions that make anyone roll their eyes!

Your question got me thinking Steve, and have done some research and appears that whilst the oil thermostat directs oil flow away from the cooler it allows some oil to flow to the cooler so there isn't a problem with a volume of cold oil hitting the engine.
In theory no difference to how the coolant thermostat works i believe, but hopefully someone else can confirm or deny what i have said.

Exactly, all the stats do is open slightly and bleed in cooler fluid until they reach their full open temps. The same as the coolant thermostat.
Have a search for the oil stat group buy that happened a while back.
I have an inline stat that diverts oil away from the cooler until it reaches 80°C.
