Coolant leaking from Heater

Just had a call from Andy at Dorset Sports Cars.
Apparently the small coolant leak I have is coming from the heater unit which is tucked up under the body near the passenger footwell.
Has anyone experienced this before? Is it usual, i.e. is it likely to be coming from the heater unit itself, or is it more commonly just a loose hose/clip?

Feck. The Heater Matrix itself is leaking, and needs repair or replacement.
Looking online I cannot see anyone who stocks this part, so it looks like a repair, whilst I plan on securing a replacement for later fitting.
Damn nuisance as it's about 6 hours work to dismantle the car sufficiently to get it out, repair and replace.
Another £400 labour down the tubes, plus cost of repair.

6 hours????!?!?! Drain coolant by 6 inches. Remove scuttle panel (2 wing nuts). Pull back carpet in passenger footwell. Undo 6 or 8 screws. Cut a bit of gaffer tape. Undo 4 hose clips. Unplug a couple of electrical connectors. Wiggle it a bit and the heater box is in your hand. I am slow doing these things but I did it in well under an hour. 10 min to remove the matrix from the box, and another hour to stick it all back together. 2 hours absolute tops!
If you need a replacement heater matrix then a good option is Foursome Vehicle Heaters in Redditch.
Apparently they were the manufacturers of the original units.
Cost is approximately £100.00 all in delivered if the matrix is the same as their website diagram.
If not then they can manufacture a special as necessary.
They don't have stock but can manufacture as a 1-off in about a week.

I had a tappet service with oil change plus supply / fit of a new starter motor and air conditioning bearing.Car was delivered dead on the back of an AA wagon and returned by Nigel himself.
Total cost was £1250 all inclusive.
Admittedly a larger single bill than I'd had from the other place but I didn't end up with a bad taste in the mouth.
oh dear - that does indeed give me a bad taste. I want it back on the road this week, so I'll have to bite the bullet this time, but yes, it seems that they try and sucker people in with warm & friendly, and then slap them with a large labour bill.
I will take the car elsewhere next time. Fecking nuisance, because they are only 15 minutes away.

and BTW I opted out of getting the manifold & clutch slave done....I had intended to get a competitive quote on those bits anyway.....
I'll get the heater repaired, so it's on the road, and then I'll get the replacement fitted elsewhere. Doesn't even really need an indy. Could do it myself if someone gives me a few hints as above...
And yes, Redmist is next up for the matrix replacement (if i cannot do it), and the manifold & clutch slave.

Seems as if we've gone the same route with this.They too are only about 15 minutes away or 9 minutes in the Cerbera and they'll do the courtesy car thing.
Which bit of Bournemouth are you in, I'll have to keep an ear out for you.
My Cerb will be back out to play in a couple of weeks so if you hear a rumble in Queens Park .... guess who?
Well if you're in Queen's Park you aren't very far from me at all.....I'm off Malvern Road, at the top of Charminster Avenue.
Dorset SCs have come back to me now formally quoting 3.5 hrs to repair the heater matrix but it won't be complete until Monday evening, so I'm without a car for the weekend, unless I just tell them to put it back as it is, and then get it done elsewhere. As I'm off to Luxembourg next week, and I MUST have it for next weekend, then I'll just leave it with them, but gutted I've not got my baby for this weekend.
At least it's less than the 6 hours Andy quoted, and also covers the investigative work to find where the leak was coming from.
