Exhaust

Just changed the Exhaust system for a sporty type thing. Was told it improves performance above 5500rpm, well not sure about that but just taking the back box off alone must do something as it weighs a blinkin TON.

Its pretty loud & I don't think any of the neighbours are talking to me now Lol

So I may aswell go for a ride.

I need a louder exhaust, after being told the other night by a fellow PHer that my exhaust is quiet.

Decatted 4.2 with linked sports backbox, by the way.

I had some sports pipes on mine.. WAY too loud to be neighbourly (occasional startup at 6am!).. I had some silencers put in which made is super quiet and no fun.. de-catted it and got some added noise + pops back Its now somewhere between standard and the sports pipes and sounds gorgous I'll try and upload a clip to youtube (although cameras never do justice to the sound)

I think the original system sounds really good.ive got the sports system on mine and it does sound nice....but i still prefer how it sounded when i bought her.shame the feckin back box fell to bits cos i would have kept it on if all was well.

The sound at idle was immense! sat at traffic lights it would set off car alarms! I really miss it but it was far too anti-social...

I think this setup is a very good balance, you still get the noise, especially on throttle but you can keep the noise down if needed.. Put the cats back in and its not much louder than the standard setup... The track silencers I have remove the harshness if required also..

Had a 2 1/2 inch stainless system custom made by Raceproved de-catted to go with short induction and a full re-map a year ago on my 4.5 the noise is awesome massive pops and bangs at 3k and baritone bassy pops at 2k also spine tingling scream from 5k up, however if you do a lot of long journeys it could be a bit loud and draining!.

Not happened yet though!

Well I'm back & it does sound really nice, i know this is hard to quantify but its just a tad quieter on tickover than a 1200 Harley that a friend has, or when you talk to people stood beside you they have to put there head down next to you ... is that loud ??
Not much help I know , but as you press on it really does snap & rasp, the pops & bangs are much snappier , less bassier(?) I guess which is hardly surprising as the original back box must act as a bass enhancer to some extent up to the small cans that now act as silencer's lol.
As for performance enhancing I cannot really say, it was a bit damp & there was no real free roads yesterday when i popped out( ok yes I'm a wimp) , I did get over 5500 once for a few secs & yes it did "feel" as though there was more of a shove in the back than usual. The shove in the back maybe due to me expecting it to be there though, the last owner had these pipe's fitted & had told me how they let the car breathe better at higher RPm, who know's?
No idea what make they are, they were a spare stainless exhaust system that came with the car, but they are 3" pipe's, no cats & go into the much loved "4 tail pipe" treatment lol.
Aurally its A+ from me or to the older set here... "I'll give it Foive".. now who dares to admit they remeber that phrase lol.
