Got this in the post today, nice and bling! When I come to fit it, will obviously be changing the coolant so want to make sure I get all the old stuff out. Is there a special trick to this, maybe involving hose pipes? (assuming I am 'allowed' to use it during the fecking stupid hose pipe ban coming into effect!)
Oh yeah, anyone know where I can get a fan to fit, as I only have one on current rad due to car being non A/C? Might as well have 2 for all those mega hot summer's days that are sure to come along!

Oh that is Rad porn, Mine will be waiting for me when i get home next week.

I use the hose pipe at low pressure to flush the old stuff out not a issue with Hose pipe bans up here
If you want some of the wet stuff come up here. lol
Heh, was tempted to get some of these too http://www.actproducts.co.uk/shop/sc012-cerbera-aj...

but then saw the price!
Does it matter which way round I flush it?
Found the fans, but which one to get?

As t happens I'm currently making some water rails. I've had the flanges laser cut and as I type getting the tube bent. Material wise a pair are going to come out to around £100. I just need to weld everything together. I'm keeping one set for myself and going to sell the other set I'm making although they won't be £450 like the act ones. But could let a pair go for £350. Might also interest you in the other stainless water manifolds that I'm also doing for my car which just need finishing welds done when back at work.
Unfortunately I thought all the bits you can buy are too expensive and making them is very satisfying knowing I've saved loads on the same upgrades.

Did you get a blank for the fan switch boss?
Where is the fan switch pick up Otter switch like a chim???? The rad always seems a better place to pick up temps for the rad to me??? or am i wrong here?
It was supposed to come with the blank but didn't, however they are sending one in the post hopefully.Where is the fan switch pick up Otter switch like a chim???? The rad always seems a better place to pick up temps for the rad to me??? or am i wrong here?

I would certainly be interested in a set of manifolds and water rails. Speaking of which does anyone know whether they have a built in valve on the underside?Unfortunately I thought all the bits you can buy are too expensive and making them is very satisfying knowing I've saved loads on the same upgrades.

I found what looks like a small leak on the nearside manifold. Picture is taken from underneath, apologies for poor quality!

However, have been informed that this is a button valve??? (might have got that wrong) that seals up as the water heats up?

Funny thing, in all my car days, through spitfires, to fiats, and then kit cars, I've never improved airflow through a radiator or improved cooling using a shield.
In every car when its been easy I take them off, and the car temp goes down.
If I had that radiator I would rip the shielding off, and just fit two fans to the rear.
If you look at BMW radiators on their big engines that make a point of not having the shielding flat to any part of the radiator.
I will put £10 on the table and say that radiator without the shielding would be more effective

Pretty sure you're right there. The only thing it may do is make the fans less affective. If the fans aren't pulling on a sealed chamber you may get side flow. You'd have to mount the fans flush onto the radiator. In every car when its been easy I take them off, and the car temp goes down.

So, getting close to fitting new rad. For those who asked, old rad weighs about 8Kg, new one about 5Kg. Measured using bathroom scales, so not hugely accurate! Also, will need another relay to get the second fan working as suggested.
What's the best way to get all the old coolant out? I've disconnected the lower hose from the rad, but this doesn't look like the lowest point to me. Should I get under the car and disconnect the hose at the engine end? I have the manuals, but the picture is too fuzzy to really show me which point I'm supposed to be draining from.
