Protech Dampers 12,000 miles and 4 years on

Just had my dampers off for a check over as I've got most of the rear end off to get the Diff out.

To be fair they have survived pretty well. My car is no garage queen and has bee round The Ring for about 30 laps, and has done 2 full days at Spa over the years along with road trips through France and the UK. She's certainly not afraid of rain!

All the adjusters move freely, the only things that were a little stiff were the ball joints but they have freed off nicely.

How are they on the road do they feel stiff or is the ride quite good?

I am looking at AVO's as that what i just took off mine and the ride was great.

They seem very well made

I've had protechs fitted for the last 2 years and had them set up by RP last year.

I find the ride is excellent and the front end grip is fantastic.

I'm still tweaking the rears to suit my driving stile but on the whole protechs are excellent value for money IMO

Avos were seen as the cheapest option back in the early days but were soon off the radar when other options arrived. Personally I take the opinions re nitron, protech, racing reds etc with a pinch of salt as theres no truly objective data. A chassis engineer from mclaren wasn't impressed with my 2nd cerb on its nitrons.

I went with Protech. Many people said good things about them and they are a good price.

I cant fault them. Having said that my car is only used on the road and because of that i doubt i would be able to tell a difference between any of the other makes. No doubt on the track there is a difference.

They look good to me after all that time,ive had some in the past that have looked really bad after a short period...and they were not cheap ones.my Ohlins will be stripped soon so will post up what mine look like......not that good i bet

Bought a set of ProTechs, on advice from Jools, two years ago.

Have found that, with 8 clicks in, they are brilliant from rough streets to racetracks. Unbelievable front-end turn in and, since I've had the brakes sorted, are superb under any level of braking.

Top product, well recommended.

After sales is also very good with servicing a couple of years ago being only about 50 + VAT for all 4!

I've uprated mine to 450 lb rear springs and wound up the rebound damping also by 7 clicks.

I was maxed out on the rear (fully slow) but still needed more.

Wow! Compare that to nitron service, particularly if a 'full' service.
