Has anyone used exhaust wrap on AJP 8 exhaust headers and if so how much did you need?
I know the proper answer is ceramic coating, but the budget is under enough strain with the chassis refurb as it is! I want to try to protect the new top rails I had to weld in, where the exhaust had burnt the old powder coating off and they had rusted horribly.

I used about 25m of 40mm wrap rated at 850C, I paid just under £1 per meter. It is one of the most unpleasant jobs I've ever done on a car.
Soaking the wrap in water helps somewhat, and you have to wear gloves, but be advised that the first time you start the engine it will look as if the car is on fire. Try to get the car out in the open if at all possible.
It has made a massive difference to the under bonnet temps. On the other hand I recently found out that my cats had melted, cause and effect? - Who knows.

OK, so either approach works well. I suppose the advantage of a ceramic is that it is potentially neater, lighter and not quite as thick where as the wraps come in slightly cheaper???M
Like UKkid I wrapped my old Subaru and also melted the cats. After talking to a few people about this I came to the conclusion if the heat can not dissipate from the manifold it has to go some where else hence traveling more so down the exhaust and melting the cats.
Just something to keep in mind if still running cats.

Hmmm... OK.
I'm not running cats but I suppose if the ceramic option isn't quite as effective as a wrap, it might be more forgiving to cats. The main driver for me would be to protect the chassis in the confined space, so I'm happy going down either route. Has anyone got any suggestions for ceramic coaters and an idea of costs??

I also have ceramic coating on my manifolds and the underbonnet temps are massively cooler than before (no data to prove it but I know my car)face to exhaust test..... The heat has to go somewhere so make sure you have sufficient protection on the floor pan to avoid overheating some areas and around your fuel tank as it may have all aged, by now. Expect your tailipipes to be hotter too. cheers Jon

Zircotec will do it at a price.
There's also Camcoat - which on searching thru other marques forums, comes out a little cheaper then zircotech.gifdy said:
I was quoted £403 for primary black, £576 for performance white and £662 for a performance colour. Price for both V8 manifolds, excluding Y piece. May be of help...
That was for a RV8 manifolds not an AJPOn a couple of Scooby forums these guys get a good mention too;

I have used wrap previously and it was good but there are a couple of other problems
1) It is fairly fragile so although it looks good to start off with if you are doing much work around it then it gets tatty pretty quickly. On my last car I was at the point of having to re do the wrap after 2 years and one engine out job. I think some systems come with a resin which is sprayed on and toughens the surface
2) I dont know about AJPs but on cars that tend to leak oil or petrol high up on the engine (such as older SU multi carb setups) I have heard of sufficent flammables accumulating in the wrap that a fire started.
