The big fuse ........

Hi all i know this has been done a few times and i have read a few threads but just have to ask before i start ....

I'm upgrading to new 125 amp with a new holder too from tvrpower

will it effect alarm / immoboliser ( from what i've researched so long as i switch off immoboliser before touching battery or disconnecting all will be fine )

Do i need to disconnect battery ? only 12v so not worried about getting a shock but understand the amps running through can cause one hell of a short if i touch chassis and fuse with something metal...

I'm pretty good with electrics but just double checking before diving in !!!!

Rev counter bounces around a lot which is main reason for doing it but also just one more thing off the list of jobs

Replacement of the big fuse might not cure your rev counter issues IIRC. It tends to be a fault with the unit itself which would require beins sent away. They all seem to do it.

Yes you should definitely disconnect the battery first - as you say not because you'll get a shock, but because if you get a short, you'll weld the cable to the engine. While you're leaning over the battery. Which will explode, taking with it your family allowance.

(note that the above sequence of events might not necessarily happen. I do remember many many years ago, I watched my pal disconnect his battery, positive terminal first. The back of his hand touched the car body. He was wearing a wedding ring, and the resulting sparkiness resulted in a trip to hospital to get globs of melted gold extracted from his finger. Not nice.)

What was the other question? Oh yes - before you disconnect the battery, make sure you have opened all the doors, windows and the boot, and have the key fob in hand. Same when you connect it up again - the alarm will go off and it will try to lock itself.

That was all I had to do yesterday, but it is a TVR so individual cars may vary!

I can hope but who provides a repaire service on these ? and any idea on cost ?

As above disconnect the battery!!!!

I have actually rushed someone to hospital after catching a ring across a live 12v feed working on a car. He lost the finger and had serious damage to the two on either side of it.

Speedy Cables would do it, but it will be a long turnaround, and I have no idea on cost I'm afraid. I've learnt to love the bouncing rev counter. The rule is, the harder you drive, the more it swings.

I was concerned about long turnarounds, but Speedcables were pretty speedy with my Oil/Water last month, took about ten days.

FUBAR he mentioned 'ring' across a live 12v feed. Now that would hurt!!!
