tbh mine has been like this for 4 years and not gotten any worse really. Although it is kept in a dry garage and not driven in winter salt.

The chassis will just be touched up with Hammerite for now but will be properly sorted in a year or so.

I really fancy doing my own body-off cahssis refurb one day. A massive job, I know. Has powdercoating moved on much since Cerb production days? I mean, if I were to do it is it going to need doing again in another 14 years?

TVR powder coating was.... st to say the least. There are parts of my chassis (where it actually stuck properly) where there is NO corrosion at all.

If it is done properly and the chassis not left to rust outside before application then it will be perfect.

My chassis is currently being grit blasted, then hot zinc sprayed and finally powder coated. Hopefully the will be permanent corrosion protection, because I never want to have to take the body off again!

Good luck getting yours back together for Chatsworth ridds, my target is a speed trial in July.

The joys i think most Cerbs out there will look like this now. At least yours looks Waxoyl free, that stuff must have added 40 more hours for mine.

Hi Ridds,
What type of paint scraper did you use to remove your powder coating please?

I'm touching up areas of my chassis at the moment and it's proving to be extremely laborious.

By the way how long has it taken you to get your chassis to this stage?

Cheers.

Stop faffing about with those frame bits and get them /sand/bead blasted.

I have a small clarks cabinet in my workshop, and its a godsend. Itd have all that rusty looking stuff back to brand new looking in minutes smile

This is the scraper.... took 2 hours to get like that.

I'm not going to do the chassis properly as I don't want to make more work for the shot blasters later. Plus I don't want my garage full of shot dust. For now it's loose material off, prep surface and Hammerite top coat.

All the bits that came off the chassis are being blasted now. Just had a call to say the Zinc plating is done!!! 1 day turn around!

All in all RIDDS that looks like a pretty good chassis that you have there. Very imnpressed with your tenacity in the fiddly bits.

Shows the mark of a great lover (said my ex-)

Good luck with your treatments (siad my Doc)

I'm having exactly the same done - due back in 4 weeks or so. July sounds like a good target...

Slowly making progress. The Hammerite on the chassis pretty poor. It really is worthless attempting to tidy your chassis this way. It is merely a way of giving yourself another year or 2 before you bite the bullet and lift the body.

POR-15 paint is very good. sticks well and covers nicely, very thin too. The Whitecoat however is complete st, peals off, chips, and is an arse to paint on. DON'T bother with it.

Purge can connections for reference.

Looking good And you seem to be making good progress with it. Keep it up worth it in the end.

It's a shame they don't do the standard POR-15 in white as that stuff is excellent!

tbh If I were to do it again I would just go with one of the available colours. I think though I will strip it all off again when the chassis is done and get it all powder coated properly.
