Alternator - land Rover vs. TVR
Discussion
Hi All,
Despite a shiny new red top battery, it looks like my alternator is on the way out. Looking around there are either ones from TVR parts places for about £140, or Land Rover 3.9 ones for about £80.
Apart from the obvious price difference are there any other differences in terms of fittings or quality
Thanks,
Simon

If its the same alternator used on a Chim I would advise you pay the extra for a Denso one.
There is some real junk out there and the cost is no indicator of quality.
However Denso are very good.

At £141.50 it's not the cheapest option, but its a fair price for a genuine Denso.
That's the one I would buy.

I'm not sure that Ebay one is man enough.
Mine was replaced last year and I'm sure Andy at APM said I needed a 140a IIRC
Why would a Cerb need a bigger alternator than 100amps?Mine was replaced last year and I'm sure Andy at APM said I needed a 140a IIRC
A lot of Land Rover owners running big spots upgrade from their existing 65amp or 90amp alternators to a 100amp unit.
Do Cerbs run rally lights?
How about this?

Actually I seem to now recall that it was a 120a as recommended by APM.
I've also read on here somewhere, something to do with Cerbs not charging at tickover so some people suggest a 120a too.
As far as Im aware mine hasn't got rally lights on but I'll take a closer look in the morning.

just having fun with ya mate. What does a chimp boy know about Cerbs anyway?
Well I know I will have one, one day.
Hi Guys,
Thanks for the replies. Mine was replaced at APM a few years ago. I've replaced the whole wiring for the big fuse and the fuse itself with a 'mega' fuse, so thats not the issue, plus the battery has been replaced as well. The next component to replace is the alertnator itself, I know I can get one from a TVR parts place like Racing Green, just wondering if the extra £60 or so they charge means better quality compared to the Land Rover ones.
