Talk to me, thinking about chopping the Cerb for a 650 cab
Discussion
Talk to me I might be loosing the plot, I have a very rude Cerb that rightly can and does frighten the feck out of me if I take liberties. It has 450hp/400lbs, owes me nothing, does not depreciate, brings silly grins on my face when I start it up. I even considered taking it to my grave with me at one point (later rather than sooner!).
However this year I think I've fallen out of love with it. I've not even got it MOT'd let alone drove it, last time was November. Even then I only managed to get out half a dozen times. Mainly due to being too busy at work, it not being a car for commuting in (14 miles 6 of which are nose to tail 1st gear traffic) and the usual mrs not enjoying being a passenger in it, let alone drive it (yes she is insured!).
I toyed with the idea of an M6 but don't think I could get on with the thought that the SMG/Clutch/gearbox was going to give me a 5k bill every time I took it out and I'm not so sure about the V10 either.
I thought about another convertible, Tamora would be my choice of modern Tivs, not interested in Griffs or Chims, but again I would like something I could drive everyday without worrying so sadly no Tivs then.
Which brings me around to BMW 650 Cabs, 2+2, rwd, still a V8 with 4.8ltr and dare I say it; every day usability and enough open air speed to keep me amused, perhaps.
Collective thoughts appreciated please....

Bud,smiles smiles and smiles...thats what a tvr cerbera is all about, sure you want to beat the feck out of em from time to time, but then the same goes for the wife
my car is giving me some hassle at the mo and come to think of it so is wifey...but i would not trade either of em.what other car looks like a cerb...not many, keep it mine owes me nothing....owes the bank a fair bit mind

I had the Cerb for just over 12 months, yes i spent a lot of money in that time, but i still can't quite explain why i fell out of love with it so quickly. It was unbelieveably quick even with a paltry 378bhp, but i just didn't quite connect with it - so i went the Tam route, and to date 15 months on it's cheaper, more modern inside and out, yes it's slower (in relative terms that is), but sounds so much better, pops and bangs unbelievably, could be a cheapish trial before the big bucks of a 650
Theres not much you can do when you lose the Mojo, for me however I would have a 911 before a 6series. I used to be massively anti 911 (having never really driven one) Now im fortunate to have one as a Cerb stablemate and they complement each other very well. Next on the list however is a Griff 500.
I had an E60 M5 for a year or so and didnt really connect with it despite it being the fastest thing I had driven on the road.

Nobody really ownes a TVR- they just look after it for the next generation to enjoy. If you're not getting everything you should from it, then it seems silly to keep it locked up unused. I think the 650 would feel very soft after the cerb though, and as the V10 in the M6 is possibly the greatest engine BMW will ever make, it would certainly get my vote as a car that has to be sampled at some point in life.
Maserati 4200 is also a great shout though. Dont rule out an AMG merc though too.

Cheers for the replies so far.
Not been in a 911 Turbo, but have only done the C2/C4 versions 964/996, can't say they did anything for me, interior/exterior or driving, so a Turbo would have to be x10 on them.
Not a lover of 4200 masers, only like the latest shape and they are still big bucks and 'Italian', my last Italian car was an Alfa Sud, shall we just say the negatives still live with me and out weighed the possitives
. Might try a XKR though.
The thinking behind a 650 was and remains it is a comfy GT with fair performance, good reliability and not going to break the bank to run it hence the no to the M6 version earlier.
