I think he's refering to the rubber gasket seal (red/orange bit) Ireland.
I just put a bead of vaseline on the top (chamfered) edge of the sensor before re-connecting the lead. Seems to be working so far!
Yes spot on, the coloured rubber seal inside connector. I know a bit of Vaseline can work but wondered if possible to replace seal ?I just put a bead of vaseline on the top (chamfered) edge of the sensor before re-connecting the lead. Seems to be working so far!

Vaseline is not kind to rubber (as any family planning clinic will confirm) you are better off using silicone greasehttp://www.carlube.co.uk/index.cfm?page=118

Silicon Grease as above is what you want to use you for any electrical connections or O-rings ( Good for holding them in place). Only a smear is all you need. We use it For all our Sub sea connections On ROV systems. http://www.carlube.co.uk/index.cfm?page=118

I have done all of my Connections in the Engine bay to keep water and corrosion at bay.

Will not do any harm to get a little on the metal contacts. They seem ok when we put 3000v through the stuff 12v will be fine
Oh to add get some Electrical contact spray and some pipe cleaners will help alot if doing a good few of them.
