I've come to the conclusion that the Cerbera will go in the next year.

It is great and I love it but I've had it for 2 years, I'm doing a lot of work miles in it (no time for fun driving at the moment). I've been driving TVRs as my main car for nearly 15 years and so it really is time for a change I think.

So what do I get next?

I really would like a Maserati 3200 or even the 4200 (or whatever the later on is) but then the work miles/cost of runing it will come into play so that is out for the moment. I'll revisit this one in a couple of years time.

Much as though I can see how brilliant they are Scoobies and Evos just do not do it for me and I'd have a feeling that I'd lose a pile of cash on them.

So what should I get, about £15-£20k, second had so I don't take the depreciation hit.
Must get the family in and be an interesting drive, I accept it is not going to have the grin factor of the cerbera but that is fine, I'm after a change.

Any suggestions?

I must say it is pretty high on the list of things to look at. What sort of running costs though?

XKR (for a couple of grand extra)
Or some high-powered Audi... 4.2 A8 (real bargains at <£10k now), S4, etc.

...recently I've been drooling over 993 Turbos (although admittedly at nearer £40K than £20K). Do I need help?
[confessionmodeoff]

I have a LHD E34 M5 Touring (one of only 800-odd made) for full-on family use and long business trips - I find this the perfect complement to the Cerb, and it only cost £11K earlier this year.

Mate of mine just picked up a 99 S4 Avant for £11K also - tweaked to 350bhp for £400. Bargain!

cheers

I have run a 98 Cerbera for 58,000 miles and a 2001 E39 M5 for 63,000 miles. The running cost for the BMW is less. Alot less.
In addition BMW have a superb full warranty that has unlimited mileage.

But............
However superb the M5 is, and it leaves me grinning even now, it has not quite got the magic of the Cerbera.

Don't knock it till you've tried it.

I came out of an Evo VI into a 4.5 Cerb and it showed me how awsome the Evo was. Round the twisties the Cerb would be left standing.

OK so you have to deal with the (bad) looks of the Evo but it really is a must-do car for all proper petrol heads. And you can pick up a very sorted 2003 Evo VIII for the sort of money you have and only expect a couple of k depreciation over the year. Running costs aren't all that bad especially if you get one with a UK warranty still running.

Go on try one!

S.

Disclaimer - No the link is not my car and I hold no liability for how sorted it is or otherwise and, yeah yeah, its an import so has no warranty - but you get my point!

I like this topic, constant conundrum since buying the Cerb.

Motorbike engined, real wheel drive, chain driven, mini is closest I've seen to fun factor

I very nearly bough a subaru rb5 from ebay today, it went for £7600! The auction ended before I had time to get my shut together. Not that I have decided that is the way to go I just thought it might be worth a punt. What do folks think my Cerb is worth?

Lol, I asked for that one. We'll it was cheap, I could have run both for a couple of months to see what I really thought. The issue with selling it is wanting it back after 6 months and then having to get into the trials of finding a good one.

anyway you should be pleased I'm listening to you!
