S-reg, sports exhaust, afterburner style rear lights..

Sorry, but you couldn't lose me! Very embarrassing, and me in my 4-door saloon as well .. tsk tsk

Seriously though - nice car, but i'd get it checked out - my Cerb would walk away from the bimmer at any speed.

Actually yes! We were on the way to a wedding in Lichfield. But if he thought I was plod, doing those speeds in front of me wasn't the best way to avoid a ticket!

Not trying to knock Cerbs, guys - I had one for nearly 4 years and loved it to bits. And i'm under no illusion that it would blow the M5 into the weeds. Just saying I was surprised at this one, that's all!

Definately the bargain car of the moment I think.

Plus points
- Handling
- Performance
- Warranty/dealer backup (if you find a good one)
- Toys
- Outdragging many "sports" cars
- Economy (25MPG 400BHP 5.0 V8 anyone?)

Bad points
- Steering/gearchange
- IMO starting to look dated now
- Anonymity
- Need a BMW warranty!

I reckon the M5 (and also the 5-series sport models) have fantastic handling and the performance is astonishing. The warranty is an absolute MUST but is excellent when compared to other warranties, e.g. TVR. They cover everything you'd expect almost without question, and a lot more. Our M5 doesn't even have the satnav/tv but has plenty of toys as standard - leccy seats, xenons, park distance, leather, climate, tyre pressure control .....

As far as driving it goes, i'm not 100% happy with the steering and gearchange - both give the game away that it's a fairly large and heavy car. But ours has done 85K miles which could account for some of that. Also now that i'm seeing lots of the new 5 series I reckon it won't be long before it looks dated - and in the looks department I can't help but think that something with 400BHP should look a little more exciting! But the choice of colour could have something to do with it - avus blue is fairly quiet - I saw a silver M5 with the new front/rear lights the other day and it looked really smart.

A great car, definately. And to give you an idea of the sheer value of them, I had mine advertised a couple of times recently and struggled to get offers for £18K! That's well into 'new Kia' territory and I can't for the life of me work out why anyone would pay £22K for a Kia when there are M5's around for the same price. There must be a HUGE difference in engineering and build quality, let alone performance.

As Mr Partridge would say: some people..

Doesn't the M6 toll road have it's speed check timers installed, the ones that if you do the distance in less than a certain time.....ker-ching, ticket issued?

I haven't been on it, maybe they hadn't before and thought the same, there have been rumours.

Nothing happened after I used it a few months back, but that is not to say things
haven't changed.

I expect that'll carry a lot of weight. Along with:

- My foot was stuck on the accelerator
- It said 'tear down the dotted line' on my driving licence
- I was trying to get out of your way, but couldn't find anywhere to pull in
- I got a 'tow' behind the Cerbera and was afraid to get out of it
- Will £50 'help things along a bit' officer?

I use it almost every weekend and have done so since it opened and have never had a ticket so I would not worry....
