Hi guys, got no starter, as title fuse 5 is blowing and not as previously thought anything to do with the immobiliser.
Any common known issues or is it just start pulling things apart??? Not that i mind as im quite enjoying my tinkering :0)

This brings back memories.

Bought mine 7 years ago with this problem, drove it 150 miles home knowing if I stalled it, my mate would have to get out and push!!

Mine was the starter motor, the fuse was blowing because the soleniod was getting stiff/dry IIRC.

I removed the starter, cleaned it all up couldn't find anything electrical wrong with it. Popped it back in and it was fine. Mine was an intermittant fault though.

When the fuse blows you could measure the resistance through the soleniod to earth to see if its shorted. Its the white/red wire IIRC, theres a plug in the passenger footwell on the LHS behind the carpet by the door, its the main plug for the engine wiring loom.

Good luck.

Starter motor removal is like a chinese puzzle but easy enough once you know how smile

Rich.

Thanks rich
All done, just as you said no faults just must have been sticking.
Best way to test was to pull the starter wire off and see if the fuse still popped.
Now i have a new immobiliser on its way to me... Guess a spare wont hurt..
