ECU Serial Connector

Can anybody tell me the correct wiring for the 3 pin external serial port on the loom next to the ECU? Or even better, where I can buy one?
I spent an hour making up a 9 way d-type socket (as per MBE wiring diagram) only to find that there is no serial connector within the bloody ECU!

I’m pretty sure I’ve got the right box. It’s about 6*5*1.5 inches in size. It has a large MBE sticker on the outside. It has an interface that is almost the length of its side, which has a levered locking bar. It has an EPROM in it with 4.5 Cerbera written on it, which looks exactly like the EPROM that Fernie’s have returned to me after upgrading to the new TVR Power map. Given all this, I think I’d have to be Ray Charles to get the wrong box!
So now I’m a little confused. There is definitely not a 9-pin d-type plug in the box. The only possible connection is a 3 pin external connection, which Fernie’s have told me is the serial interface that I need to use. Although I did assume that there would still be a 9 pin in the box?
Can anybody offer any help?

I did hear of a cerb without a serial port when mine was at peninsula last year. When i called colin to check how he had set up the engine, he said "ahhh we could'nt, as your ecu has no serial port" I told him it did as i had used it before, anyway to cut a long story short, colin had confused mine with someone elses, but was 100% that this particular cerb habd the boggo mbe setup, without the port inside.
Might be worth giving them a call, as they must have a way of getting round it.

okay, this is gonna be a tricky one.
How about asking the people who last serviced your car how they did it. Obviously they must have a lead to have set up the pots.
Second, I'm sure I could dig out some circuits I made of my cars internal MBE board and tell you where my conventional 9 pin connects to on the processor. You would then have to put a meter on your processor and test the pins on your external connection to see which is which. The whole point of the RS232 connection is to connect to the processor for commands.
Third possibly go to MBE and ask although I've found MBE rather reluctant to give any info they might help.
Although in all this I do wonder if your MBE box is significantly different enough such that it uses different dealer software?

I've already asked Fernie's about this and Brian took the time to show me the lead they use but I did not take too much notice as I thought I'd be able to use the internal 9 pin. Brian did suggest that I speak to TVR Power to try and get a lead.....but they could not help and pointed me in the direction of the factory.
I think my next option will be to go down to Fernie's and check their lead with my multimeter.

Okay well lets look at it another way. You have the advantage of just three leads comming out of the Box.
They are gonna be Rx Tx and earth. Earth should be easy to spot because its reflected on the Main harness cable to the MBE box.
That leaves Rx and Tx. Assuming a MAX 363 chip is in the Box (like the conventional versions). You have the voltage conversion done for you and some protection is you get TTL levels the wrong way round.
EG if you connect the Tx Rx the wrong way round to your PC you're safe. Just see which way works. The MAX 363 chip will NOT protect you against levels higher than TTL. So no connecting the Rx or Tx to anything stronger than the pins on your laptops RS232 Port.

What is TTL levels - I have the connector and my lead made up but i still don't know which wire goes to which pin on the 3 pin connector?
Mine has this, you need one of the connectors from your rear lights to attach to the three way plug next to the ECU.
You just find the earth then connect the other two. Don't worry if you get them the wrong way round as no drama.
