No ball bearing and I am reasonably sure from memory that the first of the two pictures is correct.

depression has set in as the sun is out and i cant even start the car i just dont understand how the oil pump could just stop giving good pressure when i did'nt even touch it all i did was put another crank in it with new bearings, the crank is a steel crank with welded weights so must have std size shells as this crank type can't be reground ive check to see if the releif valve is fitted right and put in a new spring so where has my pressure gonefrown

Skido the 1st photo is the correct one, if you fit it the other way around you will see 110+ pegged on the gauge & if your lucky the oil filter will blow before something else... how do i know rolleyes

Good luck though!

cheers for the reply i thought it was the right way round just needed someone else to tell me i think(hope) my problem is with the releif side of things as i just cant see that the pump could just stop pumping good pressure with new shells&mains did you get yours sorted in the end what was it

What were your main bearing clearances? Excess clearance is going to be the most likely cause of low oil pressure if the relief system and pump are working.

Hmm, if Tanguero's theory is right then a new spring won't help as the oil isn't reaching high enough pressure to push the spring and activate the relief channel. Other than trying a thicker oil I'm not sure what to suggest frown
