Warranty Claim Limits

Thanks. Its with warranty works. Your point about wear and tear concerns me. I am just trying to budget for serious expenses - its a car I luv and want to keep, but I don't want a bout of serious expenses ending my chances of that.
I'm not deliberately trying to worry you, just playing devil's advocate. I know exactly what you mean about the serious expenses, though.
It is a fact that the warranty companies only stay in business because each holder pays more than they (on average) will claim.
However:
a) an individual can be faced with a big bill on a tvr. A bit like winning on the premium bonds, but in reverse.
b) the warranty company can get its sums/estimates wrong, in which canse it goes bust and you get nothing.
Self-insurance is ok, but you need a decent "pot" in the first place to rely on it.

I've got a warranty works 2.5k limit policy. And I tried them out when the engine in my Tuscan just went.
Even though it clearly needs a rebuild (and has now had one), they're not willing to contribute a single penny towards the cost, as it's not what they define as "sudden unforeseen breakage". I gave them the dictionary definition of "breakage" (i.e. the act of breaking, i.e. the state of no longer being able to carry out the purpose for which it was created). They responded by saying that it's got nothing to do with a dictionary definition, etc. etc. and that I should talk to the DTI if I don't like the wording of their policy. They then started going on about how if something had gone wrong on my car when it's only done 23,000 miles, I should be asking the manufacturer why. Then, I got onto the subject of that if what they'd said about breakage held true, surely they could refute any claims... I didn't get a particularly positive response to that, either. Spent many an hour on the phone to them about this.
Just about to find out if they're willing to pay out on the dash pod going. Not convinced they're going to play ball.
Note that their policy will only cover you for once clutch claim too... Something to bear in mind if any clutch work ever needs doing.

Shocking. In that case I will not part with any money at the moment.
How much is an engine rebuild on a 4.5 anyway?
Depends what you need doing!
A full rebuild of everything at TVR Power can cost £10000, a top end or bottom end rebuild at an independent should come out around £3-4000.
Oh no....I think I'm gonna ask for my Griff back from the dealer who is trying to sell it for me, sounds like I need to shell out for a respray, some Leven gear, headlight revisions and a Mark Adams chip if I want to change it, I am getting mighty scared about going for a Tuscan.
JSG saw your entry about Warranty Works and thought they would be the answer to all my problems, but if they won't pay out, then what is the point?
Anyone tell me that if they buy secondhand from a dealer then will the factory/dealer honour any claims and if so for how long or are these honoured for.
Having shelled out £40k for a car and then finding I have to find £6k for an engine rebuild I think I would be divorced and also pretty unhappy.
Sorry to have come in on this thread i have been 'trolling' the comments about the engine for 6 days now and am getting increasingly worried and I am such a fan of TVR, having owned them since 1991.
I just might wait to see what Mr Smolensky does with development and sit on/in my pride & joy.

Hi Apprentice as I see from your profile you are working for a local 'specialist', does your company offer a warranty that will cover the full cost of a rebuild after the excess, or up to the maximum claim?
This would be handy to know as one of the Tuscan's that I am looking at is at your place.

PS Looking at means monitoring on the adverts at the moment!
