Should there be hot air coming from the small demister holes in the '98 - AT ALL TIMES? Even in 30C ambient heat?

If not, how can I stop it? I am baked even with both windows wide open, not only that - I have to change gear with a cloth over the gear knob, it is now too hot to touch.

Fans off? Other vents closed?

They can get hot to touch but I would not think so bloody hot you cannot touch it?

Is it running ok?

Sounds like you may be suffering from excessive exhaust heat, are you de-catted?

I'd have a look at the adaptives as well just to be on the safe side.

I have a similar issue with the passenger vent. Blows hot air unless its closed off. However, will blow cold (ok, cooler) air when the aircon is on. I've never got round to getting it fixed 'cause its not on my side hehe

It is running OK, but not perfectly, I know the power is down, but I still managed to get 160 (GPS) out of it earlier today, I backed out because the bonnet started to lift on one side.

I do want to swap out the cats for silenced decats, but they're not exactly cheap.

I got a ride in 'Softtop's Tuscan on Friday, and his car suffered similar heat soak causing an unpleasantly hot gear knob - However, my question is really about the windscreen vents. Why do they always pump out hot air? Do I need to find out about the tennis ball trick I've seen mentioned? It seems a little crude, but if it's effective I'll try it.

unfortunately there will always be a thru flow of air as the cars are only fitted with controls to turn on/off heater fans, unlike most cars that also have controls for opening/closing flaps to block/divert air flow.

Also tennis ball trick is normally for cold weather driving so your legs stay warmer.

I am very familiar with the Cerbs heating system now after replacing the matrix and fan. As said you can not shut the matrix off so it is always being heated by the engine, It will always blow on to the windscreen as well. I replaced the whole lot with a rally cars heater that puts out 2.2kw of heat. I think this will be plenty as i don't really use my car in the winter. De-cats make so so so so so much difference to in cabin heat it is a nice place to sit now they are gone. Wish i had got them out on week one.

I had my silenced de-cats made for £180 worth every penny

I remember 'Rufus Roughcut' telling me something about an electrically operated bypass valve that some people fit, can anyone share their experience? Sounds like an awkward job with some limited space, and the potential to destroy the MBE ECU if it all goes wrong.

As mentioned, I always thought there was a flow through the vents, unless they're closed. I'm guessing it's the outside heat plus a bit of heat that it picks up from the engine bay.
Turning the cold fan on &/or Air Con should sort it.

Gear knob..... Never found it too hot in this country, but burnt my hand on the frigger, in Italy, a few years back.

Very much so as i found out when i il fitted one of the hose and got 1 mile down the road to a cabin full of steam and around 5 liters of coolant in the foot well eek

The ECU got a light soaking but the connector got it the worst. It has dried out fine now and all is well, I have also moved the ecu to high ground so it should be safe from this again. smile

I remember reading that 'blackiepaul' had fitted a Ford Ka bypass valve to his Sagaris, switch it on and the hot water is able to flow to the matrix and off it's diverted back to the cooling system.

One of these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Ford-Fiesta-KA-Puma-NEW-...

The pipe work looks to be the same diameter, what could go wrong biggrin

I've bought one but not fitted it, it's on my 'nice to have' list.

Is there any chance it would fit under the expansion tank?

Late response, but the previous owner of my car plugged the demisters with earplugs to stem the flow of hot air. They are a perfect fit apparently.

There was a thread about using these, back in the day...
