The MIL light on my 4.2 has been appearing intermittently in the last day or so - comes on for a short while then goes off. No apparent problems happening with the car on the short run between home and office. Obviously don't want to run the risk of damaging anything but does anyone have any thoughts on what could be going on. 22500 on the clock so going in for service reasonably soon. Cheers

I'd get it plugged in to a laptop to find the problem.

ECU might not be able to adjust engine running, due to fuel mixture etc..
Lambda sensor readings.
Throttle pots out/connections loose etc..
Check battery cable hasn't melted on exhaust manifold. (j_s_g had this problem earlier in the year).
Any water on the ECU. Has it been outside in the rain.
Alternator on its way out.
Big fuse problems.

Hope these help.

No, car was well and truly tucked up safe and sound during all the big storms and deliberately drove the shopping trolley home on Tuesday rather than risk a back end flip in the biggest flood in london since Noah. Will check over those things that i can and if it keeps happening then it might be going in for its 24k a little sooner than planned. Thank you

if the MIL is on (& off) under light throttle & goes off when you pass 3500 rpm (approx) then one of your lambda sensors is dying.
