Planning ahead for the winter as i have a few jobs that need doing. I have the facilities and the ability, Just looking for tips and pointers and what i need to strip of and where to get a hold of the engine to lift it. I have done a few cars over the years but never a pulled a TVR engine out , A few fords, mini's ect.

I need to sort cracked exhaust manifolds , The front timing case has a very minor oil leak. The gear box needs a re-build and i may as well do the clutch while it is out.

Any other things i should do while it is out the car?

It will be getting cleaned and parts painted or powder coated as i remove them. I did try a search but the internet is so slow out here i gave up trying.

Cheers Scotty

Hi Scotty.

If you can find some... Source some 4.5 manifolds and have them zirtec coated... They have larger primary's and I believe let the engine breath more freely.

I've got a spare one going for a few beers tokens in very good condtion. I'm just not sure which side it is with out looking.

Cheers Gary my other option is to have custom ones made up in stainless and i will get him to open then up but i will see how much i want to spend on the cerb this coming winter starting to get sick of it TBH and Elise's and more main stream stuff is more and more appealing. I will never sell it just stick it out the way for a year or two until i can be bothered with it. If summer ever comes and i get to enjoy it this might change. lol

Scotty if you do go the custom route it might be a good idea to contact Joo, he saw my car when john owned it & said it has different (better) manifolds fitted that helps it, he tuned it for John in 2006. HTH.

Cheers the chap who did the rest of the exhaust System is first class. Doing many rally cars high end jap stuff to even building full GTR systems that offer a good step up in BHP he is making a big run of those just now, So i am in really good hands. But a look at your design would be useful.

I have mostly everything stripped off now all electrics, inlet manifolds, fuel side and air con pump as well as exhausts and prop shaft.

I will remove the starter motor as well today and drain the coolant off. Undo the mounts and gear box linkage.

Now the bit I am not sure on what about the oil pipes for power steering and oil pump/filter/cooler? Any tips or tricks before I dive in? Can you blank them off to stop the need to prime the pump up again? As I am not touching the guts of the engine.

Cheers scott

Just unbolt the pipes from the engine , then put clean rags round them and tape them up. It won't stop them from leaking oil / power steering fluid. But it will stop bits of dirt and grit getting in them.

You dont want foreign objects getting pumped round.

There's 3 pipes around the pumps and 1 pipe on the other side of the block. If memory serves me right.

Good luck.

A scale of 1 to 10 being worst I would say a 6. I did it all from the top side before i had a ramp.

Hi guys more info required please I am only doing a couple of hours a day out there so I don't get too pissed off with it plus it's cold hehe

Any way my question what is the best part of the mounts to remove/undo? Leave the white frame bits on the car or remove with engine?

Only a earth and clutch hose and one oil hose to go now. Might get it out before i am back to work on Friday. And then I need to get some box section to knock up a stand for it. Then the fun bit. Blingify it. smile
