So whilst changing the exhaust centre section as it has started to rot, I notice the sports tail pipes are quite rattly inside. Seeing as I bought them used, I figure it's time to replace them with some nice shiny new ones. But where from? I see that all the usual suspects offer them (ACT, Racing Green, TVR Power etc.) at different prices. What has everyone else got, and how do they sound (my car is de-catted)? Just looking for some opinions and first hand recent experiences.

I have the TVR Power sports tails & mine is decatted. It's bassier than the standard box but I prefer that. It is VERY loud when you give it beans

It depends what you want.

I've got a stainless ACT system and I love it. It pisses the neighbours right off and sets off car alarms in the street... However, I don't rate my chances of getting it on a track day!!??!!

JP sports tails and unlinked decats here. Very loud with an epic overrun. I would strongly recommend it.

ACT Sports Exhaust and no pre-cats. It passes an MOT, is very loud and on the overrun it sounds amazing.

The only reason I may not sell the car....

Fully custom Meerkat exhaust 2 1/2" system with 2 small back box's It also has silenced de-cats so not to loud. At tick over loud enough, on full chat it is like thunder chasing you smile No droning at all at all the normal cruising speeds 30 50 and 70 settles down and becomes civil.

Another vote for ACT de-cat system. As above, damn loud and fabulous on overrun.

The Raceproved custom 2 1/2 stainless sports system, with 3" tails is the best. It gave my 4.2 an extra 13 bhp.

On my last drive back from Germany, what I got was a ringing in my ears from the exhaust. When I got home it felt like I'd just got back from a concert, it was that bad. Fortunately I'd recovered by the next morning, but I really think the Sports Exhaust is oppressive.

On the other hand, I started the engine on a Belgian service station just as a 7 yo kid walked past with him mum. I swear he jumped about a foot in to the air as the car barked in to life, once he realised his life wasn't in danger his face lit up with a huge grin.

Try no cats and no silencers then! It's great for tunnel runs but too much for everyday use. I'm trying to find a couple of small silencers (Cherry bombs?) which I can easily put in before the tail pipes.

Silenced de-cats worked for me pops and bangs are still great but it can be used like a normal car when needed a nice balance from all out 120db+ lol More like 112db max

just looked at grays vid.....thats quiet compared to mine.....and believe me im not bragging about it lol.

has anyone got a link to the cherry bomb type silencers that can fit in replacement to the straight through decats?
i was gonna buy 2 x 18'' inline cherry bombs and weld the flanges from the decat pipes on them but if you can buy correct ones then that would be good.
the noise on a motorway is deathening to the point of it being embarassing, just a constant drone in your lug holes.....cant live with that

Ive got the ACT Big Bore system. Awesome sound, much bassier. In fact just today I had my MOT done (see other thread) and the tester took the car down the road and back. It is very rare that I hear my own car from the outside and it warmed the cockles of my heart. Both me and the tester had big cheesy grins on our faces.

I've got modified tails that allow me to put the ACT track cans on so they stay within the bumper outline, rather than sticking out the back like wheelbarrow handles hehe

If so, I've got a spare centre section that I want to get rid of, if you're interested? (PM me if you are.)
