NS speaker only works with door open.

Hi guys.

I've unscrewed the speaker from the door card and all the wiring behind there seems OK when I mess about. When the door is shut the speaker stops working. I can make out a thick grey "wire" of some description right at the back of the door near the hinge - is this some sort of harness? Do I need to take the door off to access it?

I understand there's a connector box inside the A pillar accessed from inside the footwell behind the carpet. I'd start there for a loose connector/wire.

Let me know how you get on as I have to do mine!

I'd start in this area looking for a loose connection to the speaker - bear in mind there are only 2 wires to chase and locate.
If the speaker is working when the door is in only one position then it has to be one of these.

sounds like a broken wire, which when in one of the positions is making contact.

That's what I'd say too...

In face, I've got the same problem with a Jeep I've just picked up. The only real solution is to run some new wires through.

Ok guys, cheers. I'll chase the wiring fault and go from there. Has anyone changed their speakers to aftermarket ones? Any recommendations? What size are the original door speakers? I'd like it to look like original but the standard ones are atrociously poor.

PS - Preferably ones available from Halfords, as I have vouchers.
